Under the supervision of the Section Chief - Complaints, Environment, and Sanitation, the Patrol Officer responds to various complaints and requests, inspects locations, and issues violation notices when necessary. They explain to citizens the various laws and regulations in force and applicable, and also respond to information requests. In this regard, they must validate the conformity of the project and the appropriate application by citizens of the laws and regulations. In addition to their duties, they must represent the City or the citizen in court when issuing violation notices. Furthermore, they must ensure that all other requests related to the service are addressed.

Main Challenges Related to the Position

• Possibility to intervene concretely on the ground in several aspects and disciplines of urban planning, offering a global and diverse view of the practice;
• Navigate through complex files requiring both active field presence, rigorous regulatory analysis, and understanding of judicial mechanisms available to the inspector;
• Contribute to the protection of individuals by ensuring a secure and compliant built environment in accordance with the regulations in force;
• Demonstrate discernment and diplomacy when intervening with diverse clienteles.

Education

• Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in urban planning and land use techniques, civil engineering technology, architecture technology, building inspection and safety technology, or related field.

Experience

• One year of experience or more
• Other
• Knowledge of the National Building Code;
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook);
• Class 5 driver's license;
• Health and Safety Course Certificate for Construction Sites (ASP).
• Assets
• Knowledge of the Access City Territory software
• Knowledge of the Plumbing Code, National Fire Prevention Code, Territory Protection and Agricultural Activities Act, Urban Planning Act, Environmental Quality Act (including regulations), Quebec Civil Code, etc.

Schedule: Temporary full-time position, 35 hours per week.

Salary: The salary is established according to Class 9 of the collective agreement for office employees (white collar), at a minimum hourly rate of $38.72 and a maximum hourly rate of $45.29.
