The McGill Writing Centre is seeking applications for a Lecturer for WCOM 206-801 (CRN 8147 - 3 credits) - Communication in Engineering for the Fall 2026 session.

Contract Period: August 31, 2026 to January 5, 2027

Location: To be confirmed

Current Teaching Rate for a 3-credit course: $11,479

Teaching Rate for a 3-credit course starting September 1, 2026: $11,824

Note regarding make-up class days: Thursday, December 3, the regular Wednesday schedule for classes, labs, and conferences will be replaced by the Monday schedule.

Education

• Graduate degree (preferably a doctorate) in rhetoric, composition, professional communication, or a closely related subject.
• Evidence of having completed professional training in teaching written and oral communication.

Experience

• Experience teaching written and oral communication at the post-secondary level.
• Experience teaching written communication to students with a wide range of language abilities in English is an asset.
• Experience teaching written communication to engineering or science students is an asset.
• Candidates must also:

1. demonstrate the ability to design structured teaching materials, including learning activities, based on the course description and target audience; 2. show a teaching aptitude that fosters learning by creating a positive classroom dynamic where learners engage in various guided activities through effective student participation and group interactions; 3. communicate clearly and effectively in the language of the course, both orally and in writing; 4. provide evidence of the ability to use a variety of technologies to facilitate student learning; 5. highlight their approach to staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of expertise related to the course in question; 6. demonstrate the ability to fulfill the functions and responsibilities of a Lecturer in a respectful and timely manner; 7. show the ability to collaborate with the Faculty of Arts administration and the University administration to resolve conflicts constructively and timely.
