The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving prevention practices on construction sites. They ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards while supporting teams in creating a safe work environment. The incumbent acts as a resource person for managers, foremen, subcontractors, and workers.

The Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for directly intervening on clients' work sites to ensure effective and sustainable management of workplace health and safety during the mandate. Through on-site presence, rigorous risk analysis, and constant collaboration with managers and workers, they contribute to accident prevention, occupational diseases, and regulatory compliance, while fostering a proactive SST culture among clients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct prevention interventions directly on clients' work sites.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain the prevention program.
  • Verify that subcontractors meet SST requirements and possess the necessary certifications.
  • Conduct training sessions, safety talks (toolbox).
  • Raise awareness among workers about good practices and the importance of prevention.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections on work sites.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, recommend corrective measures, and ensure their follow-up.
  • Support teams in developing and implementing safety procedures and work methods.
  • Analyze work methods to improve prevention.
  • Participate in accident, incident, and near-miss investigations.
  • Propose corrective actions, ensure their implementation, and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Keep event files up to date and document preventive measures.
  • Prepare and document mandatory reports.
  • Participate in site meetings and SST committees.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors, foremen, and project managers.

Required Skills

  • Hold a DEC or Baccalaureate degree in health and safety, industrial hygiene, environment, or a related field, or significant relevant experience.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • ASP Construction card is mandatory.
  • Excellent observation and risk analysis skills.
  • Positive leadership and ability to influence.
  • Skill to communicate and intervene on-site.

Working Conditions

  • Mainly daytime working hours, with some flexibility required based on clients' schedules and on-site interventions.
  • Varied work environment (industrial, commercial, institutional, or construction sites).
  • The incumbent must be physically fit to move between different sites and navigate operational work environments.
  • Work involves both on-site and office-based tasks (report writing, analysis, follow-up, and preparation of interventions).
  • Use of computer tools for SST document writing, follow-up management, and client communications.
  • Salary established based on experience, skills, and responsibilities.
  • Travel expenses reimbursement or allowance provided, according to the organization's internal policies.
  • Access to necessary training for maintaining and developing health and safety skills.
