This is an opportunity to leverage your analytical skills, business sense, and experience in commercial lending. You will be responsible for proposing high-quality loans for businesses across various industries in Canada. JOB OVERVIEW

You will be responsible for conducting the required investigations and due diligence activities related to loan proposals. You will also need to present high-quality loan proposals, including all relevant analyses and documentation to ensure that the risk level meets accepted credit criteria and is compliant with BDC’s policies and procedures.

THE CHALLENGES YOU WILL FACE

  • Write high-quality proposals by conducting analyses, performing appropriate investigations, and conducting due diligence activities on loan proposals of medium to high complexity.
  • Establish appropriate terms, rates, repayment arrangements, and commitments, ensuring rigorous credit analysis, thorough due diligence, and sound account management practices.
  • Review loan documentation and, if necessary, negotiate the transaction structure with internal partners (DC/DCA/GRC) to comply with policies and procedures.
  • Participate in resolving compliance issues or significant changes that occur during the negotiation and structuring of transactions.
  • Develop win-win solutions for the client and BDC through innovative ideas and resourcefulness.
  • Maintain relationships with colleagues from business centers and internal partners to promote teamwork, pursue common goals, and ensure uniform application of policies.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes to detailed policies, procedures, and processes and trends affecting credit and regulatory issues that may impact BDC.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, or accounting
  • CPA or CFA designation and banking experience, a plus
  • Three to five years of relevant experience
  • Experience in loan writing and ability to analyze and negotiate financial transactions
  • Discernment in credit matters and a deep understanding of policies and practices in this area
  • Deep knowledge of BDC’s products, services, policies, processes, and procedures, and ability to provide first-class customer service to internal and external clients
  • Ability to develop win-win solutions for the client and BDC through innovative ideas
  • Strong communication skills to interact and negotiate with internal partners and, occasionally, with clients
  • Good time management and ability to set priorities to meet critical deadlines
  • Sharp business sense
  • Team spirit and understanding of small business dynamics
