ArcelorMittal Mining Canada is seeking an Automation Specialist - Process Safety Management (PSM) who contributes to the design, maintenance, and improvement of critical process automation systems. This role reports to the PSM director and acts as an expert in safety instrumented systems (SIS), critical alarms, interlocks, and control strategies to prevent major incident events. The specialist defines optimal solutions, coordinates their development and implementation, and supports teams in analyzing and reducing process-related risks. They collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with PSM standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The specialist maintains technological awareness in their field, participates in change management (MOC-By-Pass), and leads projects to enhance the integrity, reliability, and safety of critical automation systems.

Schedule

This position is based in Port-Cartier with a 5-2 work schedule, Monday to Friday, eight (8) hours per day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement automation system architecture;
  • Analyze inputs and develop optimal solutions in relation to client needs;
  • Support project managers in selecting process control instruments and other components;
  • Prepare lists of required automation components for project execution;
  • Collaborate on the development of control concepts and strategies;
  • Program human-machine interfaces and industrial controllers;
  • Design automation projects;
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering and project execution teams and their consultants to ensure compliance with company standards and provide logistical and technical support;
  • Design and maintain control and safety systems: SIS, interlocks, critical alarms;
  • Define and validate SIL levels (LOPA, IEC 61511);
  • Ensure proper functioning of automated protections;
  • Participate in HAZOP / LOPA (definition of instrumented protections);
  • Support MOC (control system modifications);
  • Test and validate safety systems (proof of operation);
  • Maintain process information (PSI): PFD, P&ID, process data;
  • Manage critical alarms (alarm philosophy);
  • Support investigations (instrumentation / automation failure);

All other related tasks.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering or a 5-year college diploma combined with 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Expertise in industrial processes;
  • Good knowledge of databases;
  • Good knowledge of French and English;
