We are currently looking for a Mechanical Excavator Operator – Sewer / Water Main to join our team. Under the supervision of the foreman, the incumbent is responsible for operating a mechanical excavator to carry out excavation work related to the installation, replacement, and repair of sewer, water main, and municipal infrastructure networks. He/she ensures the safe and efficient execution of the work, while respecting the plans, schedules, and quality standards of Beluga Construction.

Role & Responsibilities

• Operate a mechanical excavator safely and efficiently on construction sites;
• Perform excavation work necessary for the installation, replacement, and repair of sewer and water main networks;
• Carry out trench excavation work according to plans, estimates, and safety standards;
• Handle and position pipes, manholes, catch basins, and other components using the mechanical excavator;
• Perform backfilling, leveling, and finishing work when required;
• Work closely with specialized laborers, loader operators, and other team members;
• Read and interpret plans as well as work instructions;
• Perform a daily inspection of the mechanical excavator before and after use and report any defects or need for repair;
• Respect health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures as well as company policies;
• Keep equipment clean and in good working condition;
• Participate in site meetings and mandatory training;
• Perform any other related tasks.

Experience & Qualifications Required

• Valid CCQ competency card (mechanical excavator operator);
• Valid ASP Construction card;
• Experience in sewer, water main, or civil engineering work;
• Good knowledge of trench excavation techniques;
• Ability to read and interpret plans (an asset);
• Sense of responsibility, autonomy, and team spirit;
• Constant concern for health and safety at work.
