About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a technical expert in engineering in the role of Chief Architect, Aircraft Systems, for the *EcoJet* flying wing research project. As a technical leader within the Research and Technology / Development and Integration of Aircraft Architecture team, you will be responsible, at the aircraft level, for defining, coordinating, and overseeing all activities related to aircraft systems aspects for this innovative research project.

The Chief Architect, Aircraft Systems, is the primary point of contact for the development of aircraft-level systems-centered architectures, comparative studies, and technology integration. This role, carried out in close collaboration with the Chief Architect of Aircraft Configuration, the Chief Architect of Aircraft Structure, and Project Management, combines systemic thinking, technical leadership, integration management, technological development, and decision-making leadership. Its mandate is to drive the development of an integrated and optimized aircraft systems architecture, integrating emerging technologies as needed, to support *EcoJet*'s objectives in terms of sustainability, passenger safety, performance, and operational capacity.

What are your contributions to the team?

  • Lead and direct the global development of aircraft-level systems architectures, concepts, and solutions - along with their associated requirements - that best meet the technical and program management needs.
  • Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and systemic thinking approach to plan, architect, and develop aircraft systems solutions.
  • Organize and drive aircraft-level systems-centered comparative studies to support the development of the architecture and aircraft configurations.
  • Ensure that safety and certification considerations influence the exploration of concepts and the definition of the architecture from the earliest stages.
  • Establish and lead critical interfaces between systems, disciplines, demonstrators, suppliers, and partner organizations.
  • Maintain an authoritative and traceable definition of the systems architecture reference and its variants, covering requirements, models, interfaces, decisions, analyses, and demonstration results.
  • Clearly communicate the aircraft systems architecture, its key decisions, and related activities to technical teams, project management, and research partners.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee aircraft systems technology maturation plans, including the application of a technology readiness level (TRL)-based approach, to ensure that technological development addresses aircraft-level knowledge gaps and meets aircraft configuration needs.
  • Influence the technical orientation of R&D program activities supporting all BWB-related systems activities.
  • Maintain alignment between the aircraft concept, systems architecture, technology roadmaps, and demonstration strategy.
  • Lead aircraft-level validation and verification activities, from definition to execution, including associated documentation.

How will you thrive in this role?

  • You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering, or a related field. Formal training in systems engineering is an asset.
  • You have more than 10 years of relevant experience in aircraft systems development, aircraft integration, systems architecture development, or multidisciplinary aircraft design.
  • You have demonstrated leadership in making interfunctional technical decisions and in architecture comparative studies, promoting clarity, ownership, and conclusion of cases.
  • You have a solid understanding of aircraft-level requirements, safety, interfaces, verification, and validation, as well as technical risks.
  • You have experience with innovative or immature technologies, integrated demonstrators, or upstream aircraft development.
  • Experience with unconventional aircraft configurations, more electric aircraft architectures, distributed systems, and novel propulsion concepts is a significant asset.
  • You are effective at bringing together disciplines, aligning diverse stakeholders, clarifying responsibilities, structuring complex problems, and ensuring that aircraft-level decisions are properly documented, justified, and verified.
  • You combine a broad understanding of aircraft systems with credible technical depth in one or more relevant fields. You know how to question specialists constructively without seeking to replace their expertise.
  • You are comfortable balancing innovation and architectural discipline. You encourage exploration while ensuring consistency across different activities.
  • You are comfortable with technical risks, technological uncertainty, and dynamic contexts. You can develop robust plans that integrate risk-based decision-making and adapt to changing contexts.
  • You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with different stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • You communicate complex technical subjects, project progress, and risks clearly and decision-oriented to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. You exercise your influence through systemic thinking and a strong aircraft-level perspective.
  • #### Now that you're envisioning this role, apply and join the Bombardier team!

Please note: You don't need *all* the skills, knowledge, and experience required for this position to apply! We're not looking for the perfect candidate, but for a talented and passionate individual.

Bombardier is an equal opportunity employer and encourages individuals of all races, religions, ethnic origins, sexual identities, sexual orientations, ages, immigrant statuses, disabilities, or other legally protected characteristics to apply.
