Our Regulatory Compliance practice helps organizations identify, manage, and mitigate their exposure to non-compliance risks. We support highly regulated clients in designing, evaluating, and improving their governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
This role offers the opportunity to lead complex engagements, develop lasting client relationships, and contribute to the evolution of KPMG's Regulatory Compliance service offering.

To further its growth and realize its full potential, our Regulatory Compliance practice is seeking an experienced Director or Principal Director in Regulatory Compliance to contribute to the development of its service offering and the growth of its team.
Based in Quebec City or Montreal, this position will allow you to work with the practice's partners and multidisciplinary teams to help clients navigate complex regulatory issues and strengthen their compliance programs.
In compliance with laws and sound regulatory risk management practices observed in the industry, our team advises clients on a wide range of regulatory compliance topics, including:
- Governance, oversight, and roles and responsibilities in compliance;
- Integration of non-compliance risk management into business processes;
- Assessment of risks, controls, and the effectiveness of compliance programs;
- Remediation, transformation, and continuous improvement of regulatory compliance frameworks.
What You Will Do
As a Director or Principal Director in Regulatory Compliance, you will play a key role in managing and executing high-impact consulting engagements with clients operating in highly regulated sectors, particularly asset managers, as well as in the insurance, banking, and securities brokerage sectors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate the management and execution of client compliance missions, from planning to delivering recommendations and deliverables.
- Provide advice on oversight, governance structure, risk management oversight, and clarification of stakeholders' roles and responsibilities to build robust and sustainable risk management programs.
- Help organizations integrate non-compliance risk management into their processes and support senior management in strengthening the compliance culture.
- Support compliance defense lines in deploying compliance programs and assess risks across the organization.
- Assist clients in regulatory risk management missions, including identifying risk appetite, identifying processes, and evaluating the design and effectiveness of controls.
- Serve as an expert advisor in regulatory compliance to provide services aligned with best practices and legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the implementation of integrated risk management mechanisms and contribute to the evolution of compliance departments.
- Lead a team of consultants while ensuring that the quality of deliverables meets KPMG's standards of excellence and client needs.
- Mentor, train, and develop team members by fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous learning.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients to deepen existing relationships and develop new ones.
- Contribute to business development activities to position KPMG's Advisory Services on regulatory compliance, both regionally and nationally.
- Increase the visibility of the practice by participating in events or writing articles on sound risk management, developing service offerings, and maintaining continuous monitoring of emerging trends and risks.
What You Bring to the Role
- 7-10 years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance, including in the industry.
- Bachelor's degree in law, accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Master's degree in law or business, an asset.
- Success in the Compliance Leadership Competency Assessment or equivalent, an asset.
- Notable experience in regulatory compliance with asset managers; complementary experience in the insurance and banking sectors is an asset.
- Knowledge of regulations governing asset management, the banking sector, insurance, and securities brokerage, as well as the expectations of relevant regulatory and self-regulatory organizations, including OCRI/CIRO, BSIF/OSFI, and AMF.
- General understanding of governance and regulatory compliance mechanisms.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
- Ability to produce concise, structured, and action-oriented presentations and reports.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint programs, as well as AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, etc.).
- Familiarity with technology and compliance tools.
- Leadership, strategic thinking, client orientation, teamwork, project management, resource and budget management, autonomy, diligence, and ability to formulate convincing recommendations.
This position requires fluency in French and English. The selected candidate will need to support and collaborate with KPMG Canada colleagues or stakeholders who are anglophone and located outside Quebec. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in French and English.
