Under the responsibility of the deputy director of studies, the main and usual role of the laboratory technician is to assist teaching staff in the preparation, presentation, supervision, and evaluation of laboratory work.
The laboratory technician will be specifically tasked with
- Performing, as needed, functions of demonstration, monitoring, and review;
- Participating in the selection of specialized equipment, devices, tools, machines, and laboratory instruments, assembling them if necessary, ensuring their proper functioning, and adapting them to specific needs;
- Performing calibration, maintenance, and repair of this equipment;
- Initiating less experienced technicians and coordinating the work of support staff involved in the implementation of technical programs or operations under their responsibility;
- If necessary, performing any other related tasks.
DESIRED PROFILE
- The sought-after individual stands out by:
- Excellent oral communication skills, particularly for explaining and popularizing technical concepts to a student audience;
- A strong pedagogical spirit and a sense of service: proactively supporting students in their projects, complementing the teaching offered by the teaching staff.
Work 35 hours per week (equivalent to 5 days a week). The schedule distribution remains to be arranged between 8 AM and 8 PM from Monday to Friday.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a college diploma with a specialization in physical engineering technology or hold a diploma or certificate of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority;
- Knowledge of devices normally used in physics laboratories;
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 office suite software (Word, Excel, Teams) and collaborative digital environments;
- Knowledge of programming, particularly Python (an asset);
- Proficiency in technical drawing software, particularly SolidWorks or Autodesk (an asset);
- Management and use of 3D printers (an asset);
- Knowledge of computer-assisted experimentation (an asset).
