General Role
Reporting to the General Director, the Construction Director assumes a strategic role focused on maintaining, standardizing, and optimizing management practices while managing the day-to-day operations of their department. They participate in the optimization of work methods, rigorous planning processes, and performance control mechanisms to ensure the consistency, collaboration, and overall performance of construction teams. The role is heavily focused on human resource management, team mobilization, and continuous improvement of organizational practices.
Team Management and Leadership
- Lead and mobilize construction teams (superintendents, foremen).
- Maintain and promote our culture of collaboration, accountability, and transparency.
- Maintain a healthy and high-performing work environment focused on human well-being.
- Standardization and Method Improvement
- Enforce and evolve company standards over time as needed.
- Structure work methods and uniform quality standards that promote consistency between teams and projects.
- Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Project Planning and Governance
- Ensure a comprehensive view of all projects and maintain organizational alignment.
- Support teams in proactive risk and issue management.
- Cost and Performance Control
- Collaborate with the finance department to implement rigorous cost control and budget tracking processes.
- Analyze project performance based on financial information, recommend and implement optimization actions as needed.
- Work with the estimation and finance teams to track and optimize project costs.
- Internal Collaboration and Relationships
- Collaborate closely with various functions of the company (operations, technical, production, estimation, and finance).
- Facilitate communication and information sharing between teams and projects.
- Align management practices with the company's strategic directions.
- Partner Relationships
- Maintain professional and cordial relationships with clients, general contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Concretely, the day-to-day activities of the Construction Director include:
- Tracking team progress and work advancement
- Establishing medium-term global scheduling
- Collaborating closely with the superintendent and foremen
- Conducting regular site visits to ensure team alignment
- Collaborating in kick-off meetings with the client
- Addressing and providing solutions to operational issues
- Conducting HR follow-ups and collaborating on hiring and training strategies
- Coordinating priorities with project managers and production as required
- Tracking purchases and equipment maintenance on-site
- Approving costs
- SST and work method management in collaboration with internal and external safety professionals
- Job Requirements
- University degree in engineering, project management, administration, or related field.
- Experience in management (5 years and more).
- Experience in process structuring, continuous improvement, or standardization of practices (major asset).
- Strong mobilizing leadership and excellent human resource management skills.
- Ability to influence, mobilize, and support multisite teams across various active projects.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and change management skills.
- General knowledge of the construction industry and its practices (rather than in-depth technical knowledge).
