About the Position

• Tasks

Maintain the spatial and non-spatial databases of the Management Unit. Provide technical services and advice in geomatics regarding the collection, manipulation, analysis, integration, and presentation of geospatial and non-geospatial data to support park management activities and resource conservation.

Execute, direct/monitor, and participate in projects related to applied sciences, monitoring, and/or active management, in support of the resource management program.

The Parcs Canada team working at the ... National Park Reserve counts about 20 employees year-round, while nearly 80 people are gathered in the summer season. Fieldwork, exclusively on the islands, requires travel with the help of Parcs Canada boat drivers. Departures are made from the marina in Havre-Saint-Pierre or Mingan.

Purpose of the Process

Determined position for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

• Obtain and maintain a reliability status.
• Keep a valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Submit to a pre-employment medical examination in accordance with the policy on isolated posts.
• Travel to various work locations by your own means (Havre-Saint-Pierre and Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan sectors).
• Operational Requirements
• OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• The position requires the incumbent to:
• Wear a Parcs Canada uniform and protective equipment when required.
• Work and/or travel in various environments and weather conditions, in isolated locations, and using different means of transportation.
• Work irregular hours, overtime, and on weekends and statutory holidays, as needed.
• Work and move to various locations within the Management Unit, as needed.

EDUCATION

• University or college diploma with specialization in geomatics, geography, or cartography.
• or
• University or college diploma with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g., biology, ecology, forestry, geology) or in another relevant discipline.

EXPERIENCE

1. Experience in acquiring, managing, controlling the quality, processing, analyzing, and disseminating scientific and geospatial data from various sources (GPS/GNSS, aerial and satellite imagery, LiDAR, field surveys, and databases).

2. Experience using:

• Esri suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal for ArcGIS), Survey123, Field Maps, Experience Builder, and Dashboards
• Spatial database management systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, GeoPackage),
• SQL language and automation and analysis tools such as Python and R.
• Will be Applied / Evaluated at a Later Date
• KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of the latest trends, methods (compilation, processing, analysis, and dissemination), systems, standards, and geomatics tools applied to ecology or ecosystem management using various software and applications.
• Knowledge of scientific testing methods and data/sample collection procedures.

• Ability to acquire, store, process, and disseminate scientific and geospatial data.
• Ability to respond to a wide variety of geomatics requests and manage priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT ARE AN ASSET

• Experience in acquiring and processing remote sensing data.
• Experience in ecological fieldwork.
• Recent experience in participating in at least 2 phases of conservation projects on the ground (conceptualization, logistics, data collection, synthesis of existing data/samples, determination of data/sample collection requirements, analysis, and presentation of results).
