Hypertec is looking for a Construction Project Controller to join the Construction team in Montreal. If you are motivated, collaboration-oriented, and aligned with our values, we want to meet you!

For us, the way we do things matters as much as what we create. Our values embody the mindset that guides us every day:

  • Innovation
  • Trust
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Customer-focused

The Construction Project Controller serves as a financial and operational partner throughout the entire lifecycle of critical construction projects. This role acts as a bridge between the Operations and Finance teams, ensuring that project performance, costs, schedules, procurement, and business activities are accurately reflected in financial forecasts and management reports.

The ideal candidate possesses strong construction experience and understands the realities of project planning, execution, and delivery. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in construction project management, project controls, engineering, or field operations, rather than a traditional accounting background. Success in this role relies on the ability to understand construction challenges and translate them into reliable financial information to support decision-making.

What you will contribute

  • Collaborate with project managers from project award through close-out to ensure financial and operational performance tracking.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings and provide relevant financial and commercial analyses.
  • Develop and maintain project cost reports, financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and dashboards for senior leadership.
  • Track budgets, financial commitments, subcontracts, purchase orders, contingencies, and cost forecasts to complete.
  • Track customer and subcontractor change requests from identification through evaluation, approval, billing, and close-out.
  • Monitor project schedules and analyze the financial impact of schedule changes, delays, or work accelerations.
  • Track the procurement of major equipment and long-lead materials to identify cost or schedule-related risks.
  • Track commissioning progress, milestone achievement, transfer activities, and project close-out preparation.
  • Support billing according to customer milestones, progress payments, and revenue recognition, ensuring accuracy and completeness of project-related information.
  • Maintain project performance reports (KPIs), including: budget vs actual, final cost forecast, committed costs, gross margin, change status, procurement status, cash flow, and schedule health.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities and collaborate with project managers to develop mitigation plans.
  • Maintain risk and opportunity registers and ensure their financial impacts are integrated into project forecasts.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Operations, and senior leadership to ensure project-related activities are aligned.
  • Promote continuous improvement of project control processes, forecasting methods, tracking tools, and best practices.

What sets you apart

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management, project controls, project engineering, field engineering, estimating, or a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules, contracts, plans, procurement strategies, and change requests.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • University or college degree in construction management, civil engineering, engineering technology, building sciences, project management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with SAP, Procore, Autodesk, or equivalent construction project management software.
  • Experience on large-scale data center, infrastructure, industrial, or commercial projects.
  • Experience supporting projects valued over $50M.

What's in it for you

  • Hybrid work model for certain positions, supported by competitive benefits.
  • Comprehensive health benefits to ensure coverage for a wide range of medical needs for you and your family.
  • Health spending account (CES) with employer contribution.
  • Employer-sponsored retirement savings plan (REER).
  • Paid floating holidays.
  • Our headquarters will soon be relocated to LaSalle, in a cutting-edge new building, located along the Lachine Canal. Designed to push the boundaries of sustainability, this new site embodies our commitment to responsible growth and innovation.
