SPECIALIZED EDUCATION TECHNICIAN NATURE OF WORK

The primary and regular role of the employee in this job class is, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, to apply specialized education techniques and methods, either within the framework of an intervention plan for students with disabilities or learning difficulties, or within the framework of a program for students requiring special support.

CHARACTERISTIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the responsibility of the school administration and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, she participates in the development and writing of the intervention plan; she selects measures to achieve the objectives set out in the plan, develops her action plan, and implements these measures; she evaluates the achievement of the objectives and participates in the evaluation of the plan. She develops, organizes, and conducts educational or pedagogical support activities, cultural, recreational, and sports activities aimed at developing social, cognitive, psychomotor, communication, or other skills; she chooses, prepares, and, if necessary, sees to the adaptation or manufacture of the materials needed for these activities. She collaborates in the determination and implementation of other educational activities such as the organization and supervision of work placements.

She supports the student in their learning, particularly in the classroom; within the limits of her skills, she helps with reading and writing and provides explanations; she helps with lesson learning and the completion of assignments. She observes the situation and intervenes with students in reaction to their environment; she provides them with a helping relationship; she uses, during crises, intervention techniques that can promote a return to calm and order; she accompanies them in their behavior modification approach; she provides support to the teacher for ensuring a learning-friendly environment in the classroom. She uses adapted communication techniques to meet the needs of students. She provides information to sensitize students to various deviations or dependencies, and, if necessary, she meets with them to advise, assist, or refer them to specialized resources.

She oversees students who, following a sanction, must attend their classes in a separate room; she helps them continue their schoolwork; she agrees with the students and the concerned intervenants on the conditions of their reintegration into the classroom. She may be called upon to accompany students in difficulty at the arrival and departure of school buses.

She records her observations and interventions, maintains files, and writes reports on the situation of students. She collaborates, if necessary, with youth protection agencies and other external intervenants, particularly by reporting cases of abuse or parental neglect; if necessary, she assists the concerned administration during student searches. She meets with students, parents, and teaching staff to advise, inform, and provide them with relevant documentation and references. If necessary, she administers medications according to medical prescriptions and in accordance with the school's student supervision policy and the instructions of the parents; she provides first aid. She may be called upon to use a computer and the various software needed to carry out her work. She may be called upon to initiate less experienced technicians and to coordinate the work of support staff in the tasks performed by this staff in relation to the implementation of technical operation programs for which she is responsible. If necessary, she performs any other related tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Hold a college diploma in specialized education techniques or hold a diploma or certificate of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority.

SCHOOL BOARD REQUIREMENTS

• Work experience with students in specialized education programs
• Work experience with students with specific educational needs and in the creation of an Individualized Education Plan
• Training in autism would be an asset
• Work experience with teaching staff and pedagogy
• Computer skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a team
• Bilingual
• Knowledge of appropriate means to manage intervention with difficult behaviors
• Good communication skills
• OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Hold a document dated no more than three (3) years, attesting to the successful completion: 1° either of a general first aid course of a minimum of eight (8) hours; 2° or of a refresher course of a minimum of six (6) hours aimed at updating the knowledge acquired in the course mentioned in the previous paragraph.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday to Friday; 09:00 - 15:00 EFFECTIVE DATE

From August 27, 2026, to June 23, 2027, or until the return of the replaced person.
