This position requires full-time on-site presence.
Your Mandate
Responsible for coordinating and executing the various tasks of broadcast operations for CBC/Radio-Canada's networks and other regions and specialized channels, and ensuring coordination with the affiliated station. Controls the quality of the broadcast signal for programs and program elements and ensures their distribution.
- Inserts, during programs and breaks: identifiers, advertisements, self-promotions, and sponsored inserts, and coordinates with other elements of the schedule.
- Ensures the availability of broadcast equipment; takes necessary measures to ensure all elements are present and compliant (such as broadcast schedule files, program files, advertisements, self-promotions, inserts, off-screen voices, subtitling files).
- Reviews, for approval purposes, then digitizes advertisements and self-promotions on a server and rejects non-compliant elements and takes appropriate measures.
- Confirms, during live broadcasts, the commercial content (such as names, panels, "on-screen voices") and coordinates the broadcast of commercial blocks and other elements in collaboration with the program's production team.
- Verifies and ensures the accuracy of the content of the program elements to be broadcast from the route sheets and the broadcast schedule; reviews the program and makes the necessary corrections.
- Checks the audio-video, subtitling, and communication signals of the programs or program elements of Radio-Canada's entire distribution system, including those of external distribution companies (such as cable distributors, satellite signal providers) and all technical elements (such as VTRs, servers, external links); makes corrections if they are not compliant with established standards.
- Integrates route sheets and broadcast schedules, resolves and corrects rejections, then completes and finalizes the schedule by coding program elements in a management software. Organizes the sequence and assignment of equipment, according to the constraints of each element that makes up the program.
- Adjusts, loads, tests, sets up, installs, and operates VTRs, servers (such as audio-video or subtitling), and other technical equipment (such as antenna dressing, digital delay) and ensures their proper functioning, cleanliness, and safety.
- Ensures the accuracy of the broadcast schedule and corrects it by shortening or extending the program; remodels it, according to circumstances or during breaks, by replacing certain items or programs.
- Decides and ensures, during emergency situations, according to established standards and in accordance with the spirit of the programs, the broadcast of simple bulletins or short-duration special programs, courtesy messages or news, the displacement or cancellation of advertisements or self-promotions, and notifies the concerned network stations.
- Informs the management, regional stations, and affiliated stations of the French network, as well as production, sales, and communications, of any changes or relevant information related to the broadcast.
- Manually controls, during emergency situations, the broadcast system and corrects the information entered in the automation system to meet the requirements of the programming.
- Writes reports on any irregularities and notifies the concerned parties.
- Completes daily malfunction reports and records in the broadcast schedule the timings, anomalies, and other relevant information for broadcast confirmation for the Corporation and the CRTC.
- Finds and applies, in case of technical failures, the solutions and makes the necessary bypass, operational, or connection adjustments to maintain the quality and continuity of the service and reports to the concerned parties.
- Advises technical and production staff to solve problems or achieve desired results.
- Participates, as needed, in the revision or development of operating methods or technical standards.
- Notes any relevant information in a logbook to ensure the necessary follow-ups and continuity; consults it daily.
- Completes the appropriate forms and documents; communicates verbally or in writing the required information to ensure the necessary follow-ups and inform the concerned parties.
- Familiarizes other employees with their tasks and work environment.
- Performs, as needed, all or part of the tasks belonging to any other job class within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related tasks.
- Job Requirements:
Qualifications
- College diploma (DEC) in television production and post-production techniques or relevant DEC;
- Three (3) years of experience are required to master the skills and knowledge.
