Work collaboratively with the business unit or operating group and stakeholders to assess communication needs, recommend communication plans and solutions, obtain necessary approvals, and create or produce communications that effectively address those needs. Find content and obtain feedback, evaluate information, and translate ideas into effective communication solutions. Provide high-quality communication solutions that target audiences can easily find, understand, and leverage, and that comply with organizational standards.
- Formulate recommendations or assist in resolving issues to ensure that communication solutions are implemented.
- Participate in the development of the communication strategy.
- Gather content from multiple sources and develop communications for various vehicles, including executive messages, intranet sites, town hall meetings, newsletters, videos, presentations, and new social media.
- Identify communication opportunities with other groups (e.g., clients, media) and facilitate liaison with stakeholders to enhance communication effectiveness and alignment.
- Support business unit or operating group change management activities from a communication perspective.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting events and conferences (as needed) or direct these tasks, if required.
- Act as the communication lead on coded or confidential projects, as needed.
- Analyze progress against plans and escalate complaints, issues, and concerns to the appropriate level.
- Recommend, develop, and implement communication plans and solutions based on an understanding of business strategy and stakeholder needs and in compliance with a global communication strategy.
- Provide advice and direction to the business unit or assigned operating group on communication principles, programs, and approaches, on effective communication methods (e.g., message creation, communication channel selection), and on the implementation of solutions.
- Proactively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide context in the design, development, and implementation of communication solutions.
- Lead the establishment of communication plans designed to have a positive influence or modify behaviors or participate in such plans; create customized messages; select appropriate distribution channels.
- Review materials to ensure they comply with applicable quality standards, and determine, for example, whether they need to be translated.
- Coordinate, distribute, and publish communication solutions.
- Evaluate communication solutions that impact targeted employees and sustain them. Gather feedback and continuously evaluate the effectiveness of communication content and means, platforms, tools, and technology (e.g., intranet, portal, teleconferences, email, shared readers and SharePoint sites, social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, blogs).
- Recommend improvements, changes, additions, or deletions to communication content, as well as means, platforms, tools, or technologies, as needed, and coordinate with partners to ensure content is up-to-date and relevant.
- Stay abreast of new trends, tools, and communication methods, and formulate recommendations for their application.
- Stay informed of organizational and industry trends; to this end, establish and maintain relationships with employees throughout the organization to identify news worthy of communication and dissemination.
- Establish effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure consistency among stakeholders.
- Strive to identify opportunities for continuous improvement of communication processes and procedures and lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives in communication.
- Focus primarily on a business unit or operating group within BMO; adopt a broader organizational orientation, if needed.
- Exercise judgment to identify issues, determine their causes, and resolve them within established limits.
- Work independently on a wide range of complex tasks, which may represent unique situations.
- Broader tasks and responsibilities may be assigned, as needed.
- Take measured risks while protecting the Bank by applying our risk management framework in the performance of your duties, in accordance with our risk management culture and approved risk appetite, by making risk-informed decisions that align with business strategy, protect assets, and comply with applicable policy documents (frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, and related documents), laws, and regulations.
Qualifications
- Generally four to six years of relevant professional experience with a post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Writing and editing skills – good skills.
- Use a straightforward and story-driven communication approach.
- Ability to communicate technical and complex information using key messages that the audience can understand.
- Technical skills acquired through education or work experience.

You speak both French and English fluently, as this role provides support to clients and team members inside and/or outside the province of Quebec.
Salary: $56,000.00 - $103,500.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the position and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time positions will be calculated on a prorated basis of the number of regularly worked hours. For commission-based roles, the above salary represents BMO Financial Group's target for the first year in the position.
