Civil Engineer Technician – Hydro-Québec (Power Transmission Line)

YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

As a Civil Engineer Technician, you will play a key role on-site to ensure the quality of the work done on Hydro-Québec's power stations and transmission lines.

You will work closely with contractors, project managers, and construction teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards and contractual requirements. Here's what your typical days will look like:

Work Surveillance

• Become familiar with the work instructions provided by the project manager;
• Verify the origin of the materials used on-site;
• Conduct in-situ tests on materials (concrete, grout, backfill materials, etc.);
• Ensure the quality of work execution according to Hydro-Québec's standards and current contractual documents;
• Supervise foundation work (pylons, poles, portals, dead ground foundations, rock, piles, etc.);
• Support and collaborate with contractors to carry out work according to Hydro-Québec's standards;
• Supervise cable sheathing work and pylon installation;
• Ensure the compliance of the dead ground soil before the installation of the pylon bases;
• Monitor the depth of rock anchors, inspect the type of grout and the mode of injection into the rock, as specified in the studies and current standards;
• Communicate with the contractor's quality manager and the project manager regarding:
• + Changes to the schedule
• + Work progress
• + Non-conformities
• + Samples taken and observations noted on-site;
• Provide regular reports on the work done to the project manager.

Report Writing

• Write the inspection and test reports required by Hydro-Québec;
• Produce reports for the client (tracking hours on-site, work teams, etc.);
• Follow up and document non-conformities.

Equipment Maintenance

• Ensure the proper functioning of the equipment used on-site;
• Calibrate and maintain the equipment required for field activities.

WHAT YOU BRING

• College diploma (DEC), college studies certificate (AEC), or comparative evaluation of studies completed outside Quebec in a related field;
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in civil engineering;
• Valid ASP Construction card;
• Certification Concrete Test Technician Level 1 (ACI);
• Valid driver's license;
• Availability to work anywhere in Quebec (Baie-Comeau, Lac-Saint-Jean, Estrie, Grand Nord, Montreal, Quebec, Charlevoix, Granby, etc.);
• Ability to maintain good communication with all project stakeholders;
• Rigor in meeting deadlines and established work plans.
