SUMMARY

The incumbent will act as an accountant within the corporate accounting and reporting team. He/she is responsible for maintaining the books and records of various entities of the organization across several territories, which includes acquiring a detailed understanding of the company structure as well as the cost centers and profit centers used to capture and present revenues and expenses.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintenance of books and records

  • Ensure that financial information related to various corporate entities is maintained rigorously and is accurate, produced in a timely manner, complete, and in compliance with GAAP, agreements, and company policies.
  • Develop an understanding of cost centers and profit centers as well as their use within the company. Consult with the manager to determine if new cost centers or profit centers are required and create them, as needed.
  • Monitor fixed assets during additions and coordinate their amortization with the fixed asset accounting team.
  • Acquire general knowledge of important agreements, including the base, calculation, and payment of various revenues and expenses.
  • Process and account for distributions and contributions, as needed, for Realterm's corporate entities.
  • Provide partners with reports on capital activities, when relevant.
  • Coordinate with external service providers and prepare the required supporting documents for compliance, reporting, consultation, or tax purposes, including TPS/TVQ statements in Europe, APAC, and other regions.
  • Calculate and account for monthly revenues or losses from investments using the equivalent interest method.
  • Assist in providing accurate estimates of annual taxable income reports.
  • Understand the nature of cross-border transactions and evaluate the impact of currency exchange and transfer prices on the presentation of financial information and treasury management.
  • Gather information from various accounting teams to properly account for, estimate, and budget expenses and revenues.
  • Ensure that costs indicated in expense reports are correctly coded.
  • Identify and correct misclassified balances in the income statement and balance sheet, as needed.
  • Create new general ledger accounts and new entities, as needed.
  • Review and approve invoices for payment.
  • Maintain additional books and records, as needed.
  • Assist in gathering the elements required for audits, spot reports, and budgeting, as needed.

1. Monthly closing activities

  • Take charge of the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for corporate entities by preparing and accounting for recurring and non-recurring journal entries, accruals, amortization, allocations, intercompany refactoring, and related adjustments.
  • Review expenses by cost center, revenues by profit center, intercompany balances, foreign currency effects, and other assigned financial activities to ensure their accuracy and proper classification.
  • Maintain and reconcile assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts, ensuring that activities are accurate, complete, well-supported, and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the analysis of variances and post-closing follow-up to ensure that financial information is complete, accurate, and in compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience with the Yardi accounting system, an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Deadline-oriented, detail-oriented, organized, and capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team player, comfortable in a dynamic environment, and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Good communicator, both orally and in writing, with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management within the organization as well as with external service providers worldwide.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in accounting, an asset.
  • Proficiency in French and advanced English written and spoken are required. English is required for this position as the incumbent will regularly support and communicate with managers, employees, auditors, and other third parties located outside of Quebec, including in the anglophone Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position is exercised in a general office environment and may require travel of less than 5% per year to remote offices, as needed by organizational or operational requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the workday, seated at a desk, and regularly use a computer. Occasionally, he/she may need to lift boxes weighing up to 50 lb.
