MDA Geospatial Services is strengthening its team of software development dedicated to satellite operations and is looking for an experienced and versatile software engineer to join our team in Saint-Bruno, Quebec.

Your Mission:

Under the supervision of the Chief Software Engineer and the relevant Component/Product Owner, the Software Engineer will participate in the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of user interfaces and web services, applying established software engineering principles and software configuration management techniques. The Software Engineer will also interact with the operations team to help detect and prevent operational issues, as well as maintain and improve the development environment for the systems they will work on.

The Software Engineer will provide support to CHORUS-C and/or Radarsat-2 (R2) and/or the Radarsat Constellation Mission (RCM) as needed.

R2 is a Canadian commercial satellite that provides high-resolution SAR imagery to customers around the world. RCM is a constellation of three satellites that provides high-resolution SAR imagery. CHORUS-C is MDA's next commercial Earth Observation (EO) mission.

This position is based at MDA's control center in Saint-Bruno, Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Perform software engineering tasks to develop, integrate, test, and maintain ground system applications
  • Contribute to the product roadmap in collaboration with the team and Product Owner
  • Collaborate with operational teams to facilitate the integration and testing of applications in operational and development environments
  • Manage the lifecycle of API versions
  • Work closely with our operational and production teams to provide Level 3 support
  • Document the various phases of software development (e.g., test and maintenance plans)
  • Maintain, update, and improve the development environment and all necessary systems (databases, file transfers, etc.)
  • Manage and document bugs and issues, including CVEs

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Develop tools to support system maintenance and automation
  • Support the investigation and resolution of database and system-related issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. A Computer Science degree and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in software development
  • Experience with React.js and TypeScript
  • Experience with Python, including the Django framework
  • Experience with SQL (SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with Java and Maven (including the Spring and Hibernate frameworks)
  • Experience with Agile processes and ticket tracking tools such as JIRA
  • Experience with containerization and CI/CD processes
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work in an operational environment subject to significant constraints in terms of deadlines, procedures, and security

Assets

  • Experience with XML, JSON, SVN, Git, Jira, and Jenkins
  • Knowledge of web application cybersecurity
  • Knowledge of C++ development, standards, and specifications
  • Experience with the Kafka messaging system
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure
  • Knowledge of MongoDB
  • Attention to detail and desire to delve into data analysis
  • Prior knowledge of the satellite domain (e.g., ground systems, operations, orbit...) is an asset

Comments/Special Considerations

  • Selected candidates must obtain and maintain a "Reliability" level security clearance
  • Upgrades to the "Secret" level and security evaluations under the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) may be required depending on the additional projects they may be assigned to work on
  • While it is possible to work from home one day a week, the candidate will typically need to work on-site
