The plant controller acts as the financial leader of the Sacopan manufacturing plant and is a key member of the plant management team. This role ensures sound financial management, strategic business partnership, operational support, and leadership of accounting and financial processes. The position is responsible for financial planning and analysis, month-end closings, internal controls, compliance, fixed asset management, and continuous improvement to enhance plant performance and long-term growth.

The plant controller translates operational performance into actionable financial information, supports strategic decision-making, ensures compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and Sarbanes-Oxley standards, and plays a crucial role in ERP modernization and SAP deployment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety Leadership

  • Promote and support a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Actively participate in the plant management team to advance safety culture and operational excellence.

Financial Planning, Reporting, and Analysis

  • Lead monthly closing activities and ensure the accuracy of financial reports in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports, forecasts, budgets, and long-term planning models.
  • Perform variance analysis against budget, forecasts, and prior year results.
  • Analyze plant performance, including inventory, labor, conversion costs, overhead absorption, productivity, and cash flow.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators linking operational results to financial results.
  • Present financial results and business analyses to plant management and senior leadership.

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with plant management to establish operational and financial objectives aligned with the company's strategy.
  • Support decision-making through financial modeling, profitability analysis, and profit analysis.
  • Lead scenario planning exercises, risk assessments, and contingency planning.
  • Provide concrete recommendations to improve business performance and shareholder value.

Accounting Operations

  • Supervise vendor accounts, customer accounts, fixed assets, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial records and accounting processes.
  • Produce, as needed, ad-hoc financial analyses and reports.

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Ensure the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Lead annual control assessments, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a culture of responsibility, ethics, and financial discipline within the organization.

ERP Leadership and Process Improvement

  • Lead and support SAP implementation, stabilization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Optimize and standardize financial and operational processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system capabilities, reporting, and data quality. Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency and performance.

Fixed Asset and Investment Management

  • Monitor capital expenditures and track project costs.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities using financial analysis tools, including ROI, NPV, and recovery methods.
  • Support the prioritization of projects enhancing safety, quality, productivity, and profitability.
  • Verify the achievement of expected financial benefits from capital investments.

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Ensure leadership, mentoring, and development of administrative and financial personnel.
  • Educate plant managers on financial principles and performance indicators.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or manufacturing operations finance.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required. Experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and operational planning.
  • Experience with SAP considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, cost of goods sold calculation, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Query; knowledge of VBA considered an asset.
  • Experience with SAP, OneStream, and financial reporting systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and drive business results.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Bilingual in French and English required; English is regularly used to collaborate with corporate stakeholders and business partners.
  • Ability to build consensus and work effectively across all levels of the organization.
