Summary of the role and responsibilities

Under the authority of the multidisciplinary service chief and the director of nursing and client program, the person holding this position evaluates functional abilities, determines and implements a treatment and intervention plan, develops, restores or maintains skills, compensates for disabilities, reduces situations of handicap and adapts the environment in order to favor optimal autonomy of the human being in interaction with his environment. She participates in clinical teaching.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will have the opportunity to:

• Help the resident with loss of functional autonomy to improve and maintain his physical and mental capacities.
• Maintain the resident's autonomy through daily life activities and his environment.
• Carry out admission evaluations and after a hospital return with a change in his condition.
• Evaluate the need for adapted equipment (e.g. raised toilet seat, feeding aids (adapted utensils) clothing, long-sleeved pincers, use of orthoses and give recommendations.
• Evaluate eating disorders in connection with seated posture or bed positioning.
• Compensate for postural deficits, give recommendations for positioning and provide the necessary equipment when available.
• Participate in the evaluation of skin integrity lesions, presence of pressure ulcers, attribution of therapeutic surfaces and other bed and wheelchair positioning equipment.
• Evaluate and refer target clients to the Centre Montérégie de Réadaptation (CMR) for adapted wheelchairs or power chairs.
• Organize and carry out evaluations and/or clinics of positioning at the CHSLD with the clinical team of the CMR. Perform any other related tasks requested by a manager;
• Evaluate the client's functional capacities, compensate for cognitive deficits and give recommendations.
• Participate with the nurse and the doctor, in the evaluation of the relevance of maintaining or applying a physical control measure (restraints) and revision of measures.
• Evaluate the relevance of alternative measures in bed and wheelchair.
• Train staff on alternative measures and restraints (place and method of application, verification, maintenance, frequency as well as the advantages and disadvantages of their use).
• Evaluate the physical environment of residents, accessibility and give recommendations.
• Carry out and participate in interprofessional evaluations post-falls.
• Participate in the Integral Intervention Plan (PII) meetings and interdisciplinary meetings with the family/guardian of the resident(s).
• Carry out the writing of evaluation reports and clinical notes.
• Evaluate the department's material needs and communicate to the management.
• Participate in your role as an occupational therapist at the CHSLD committees, risk management and clinico-administrative meetings.

Experience and Education

• Must hold a master's degree in occupational therapy
• Member of the Order of Occupational Therapists of Quebec
• Knowledge of perceptive-cognitive disorders, dysphagia and specific approaches (asset)
• Two (2) years of experience in a similar position, in a CHSLD or Living Environment (asset)
• Knowledge of Word and Excel software
• Good knowledge of French (oral/written)
• Functional English (asset)
