As an Operating Room Service Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the operating room by preparing the rooms, ensuring the availability of equipment, providing logistical support to clinical teams, and accompanying users throughout their surgical journey.

In close collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you will contribute to the safe and efficient conduct of procedures. You will also participate in the welcoming, transferring, positioning, and comfort of users before, during, and after their surgery.

Your contribution will have a direct impact on the quality of care, the safety of interventions, and the human experience offered to each user.

Main Responsibilities

Preparation and Organization of Operating Rooms

• Prepare operating rooms according to the surgical schedule.
• Assemble required equipment, furniture, and materials for each procedure.
• Check the availability, cleanliness, and proper functioning of medical and surgical equipment.
• Ensure the replenishment of supplies and consumables.
• Maintain an organized environment that promotes efficiency and fluidity in operations.
• Ensure that rooms are ready to welcome users within the prescribed timeframes.

Technical Support in the Operating Room

• Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure the smooth conduct of surgical procedures.
• Transport, prepare, and make available the required materials before, during, and after interventions.
• Assemble, disassemble, and store specialized equipment.
• Participate in the opening and closing of operating rooms.
• Report any anomalies, defects, or situations that may compromise safety or the quality of care.

User Welcome, Transfer, Positioning, and Comfort

• Welcome users with professionalism, kindness, and respect.
• Perform secure transfers between different clinical areas.
• Install and position users appropriately according to the requirements of each surgical procedure.
• Apply necessary protective measures to prevent injuries related to positioning or immobilization.
• Assist the team in repositioning users when required.
• Participate in transfers to the recovery room and post-operative recovery areas.
• Ensure the comfort, dignity, safety, and privacy of users before and after their intervention.
• Actively contribute to creating a reassuring, human, and positive experience throughout the surgical journey.

Material and Inventory Management

• Participate in the daily management of medical and surgical material stocks.
• Perform the reception, storage, and rotation of supplies.
• Check expiration dates and the compliance of materials.
• Collaborate in identifying replenishment needs.
• Ensure the traceability of medical devices according to established procedures.

Infection Prevention and Control

• Rigorously apply asepsis and infection prevention norms.
• Participate in the cleaning, disinfection, and restoration of rooms between procedures.
• Handle instruments, equipment, and supplies according to current standards.
• Contribute to maintaining a secure, clean, and compliant clinical environment.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in team meetings, audits, and continuing education activities.
• Contribute to process improvement and the optimization of the patient experience.
• Perform any other related tasks that promote operational and clinical excellence in the operating room.
• Required Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma (DES).
• Health field training (asset).
• Operating room technical assistance training or any other relevant training (asset).
• PDSB (Principles of Secure Patient Displacement) training mandatory.

Mandatory Experience

• Experience in an operating room, intensive care, or specialized clinical environment.
• Experience in a private surgical setting (asset).

Technical Skills

• Good knowledge of asepsis and infection prevention principles.
• Skill in handling medical equipment and surgical materials.
• Excellent ability to perform secure transfers and ensure user positioning.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment where quality and safety are priorities.
