This person performs repair, replacement, modification, verification, and maintenance work on electrical systems, installations, equipment, and telecommunications systems.

This person may perform some or all of the following functions:

  • Communicates with concerned parties to understand specific needs and problems, adapts and repairs equipment or parts of equipment as needed.
  • Reads and interprets plans, estimates, instruction and maintenance manuals, creates or modifies diagrams, drawings, and sketches.
  • Assesses quantities and prepares required materials for work execution.
  • Locates, verifies, maintains, replaces, and repairs wiring channels, distribution devices, power supply, control, command, safety, intercommunication, high and low voltage circuits, etc.
  • Assists the supervisor during thermography analyses and implements necessary corrections after receiving reports.
  • Verifies, maintains, replaces, and repairs various interior and exterior lighting systems and their controls, including circuit breakers, switchgear, outlets, switches, heating systems, power systems, control, measurement, fire detection alarm systems, ventilation systems, etc.
  • Verifies, maintains, replaces, repairs, and puts into operation various laboratory instruments, equipment, machinery, and tools such as motors, accumulators, transformers, distribution panels, chargers, capacitors, air conditioners, household appliances, tools, etc.
  • Adjusts, verifies, and installs timing and synchronization of circuit breaker contacts, autotransformers, protection, and control systems, etc.
  • Verifies the operating conditions of equipment and systems, takes readings (voltage, amperage, speed, temperature, etc.), and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Contacts various suppliers to obtain information about parts and materials. May make recommendations to the supervisor about materials to purchase and the best way to complete a project.
  • Drills or has objects and surfaces drilled to allow work to be performed. Installs supports and hooks.
  • Handles, transports, adjusts, maintains, and uses various equipment, tools, and materials. Installs or oversees the installation of scaffolding, ladders, cranes.
  • Takes appropriate measures to address any anomalies or defects and, if necessary, reports them to the responsible person.
  • Completes and writes activity reports or other documents related to their work.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and safety of work areas.
  • May drive a motor vehicle if needed.
  • Keeps knowledge up-to-date regarding laws, regulations, codes, and standards related to their work.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of procedures and tools necessary for the realization of activities in their sector. Informs concerned parties about problems affecting the smooth operation of activities and makes recommendations.
  • May be called upon to train and support new staff in their unit or people holding the same position.
  • Uses software relevant to their field of activity.
  • Uses various tools for electrical work such as ohmmeter, micro-ohmmeter, megohmmeter, thermal imaging camera, diamond-tipped concrete drill, pipe bender, etc. May use office tools such as photocopier, scanner, etc.
  • May perform tasks of a related or lower position when required.

Requirements

  • Education: Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in electricity or equivalent

Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience

Other: Valid and recognized qualification certificate or competency card and valid and recognized driver's license
