What to Expect:
The Controller acts as a strategic business partner, providing financial leadership, analysis, and visibility on performance to support effective decision-making and business planning. This role will analyze financial results, identify risks and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer, business unit leaders, and the executive committee. As a change agent, the Controller drives continuous improvement initiatives and ensures the successful implementation of actions that enhance commercial performance and financial results. This is an existing vacant position.
A Typical Day:
Co-Pilot
- Ownership of the budget annual process (OP), monthly forecasts (DF), and monthly closings (PEC), in collaboration with financial analysts and relevant departments within the scope
- Ensure the accuracy of forecasts across all areas, perform monthly and annual variance analyses, and formulate proactive recommendations to anticipate and reduce potential variances
- Develop and enhance financial analyses and perspectives to increase decision-making efficiency and planning accuracy
- Proactively initiate cost-saving identification with the involvement of the Co-Pilot analyst team and act as a change agent in the deployment of recommendations
- Responsible for identifying process and tool improvements for the annual budget (OP), monthly forecasts (DF), and other Co-Pilot activities
- Mentor financial analysts to support the executive team and their departments in their budget tracking responsibilities
- Support the analyst team in leading analyses, interpreting data, and formulating recommendations regarding investment decisions, and coach them to effectively present these decisions
Reporting
- Responsibility and ownership of budgetary and variance reports internally and to our headquarters
- Provide recurring and ad-hoc management reports on all key performance indicators within the scope (revenue, profit and loss, working capital, capex, etc.)
Leadership and Development of the Finance Team
- Responsible for coaching financial analysts to support commercial co-piloting and strengthen decision support towards senior management
- Coach and share best practices and experience with the financial analyst team
Projects
- Responsible for providing financial support to relevant departments and their projects
- Develop business cases and financial models for key projects, pricing, and profitability using verified and solid assumptions as well as relevant sensitivity analyses
- Responsible for data integrity through precise financial configuration of the local ERP, including price and cost information
- Lead new analyses, tool development, and process improvements with a focus on finance, performance, and efficiency
Job Requirements
- Proficiency in both French and English is required, as this position involves collaboration with stakeholders across the Canadian market
- More than 6 years of progressive experience in finance, including leadership experience and solid experience in a controller role
- Team management or previous supervisory experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
- CPA designation (or equivalent recognized financial designation) required
- Strong experience in financial control, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Experience collaborating with senior management and executive leadership
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Experience with ERP systems; exposure to multiple platforms is an asset
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
