The position

The Project Leader, Capital Investments, is an experienced project manager who combines operational involvement in large-scale projects and managerial supervision and development of their team for the completion of all projects. They contribute to strategic discussions for the purpose of clearly defining the organization’s current and future infrastructure needs. Do you have the ambition? We have the projects!

Reporting to the Major Projects and Infrastructure Manager, the Project Leader, Capital Investments, is responsible for overseeing the project management team, consisting of two Project Managers, and coordinating with external engineering firms to successfully carry out the company’s large-scale projects.

Main responsibilities

  • Assign and monitor project mandates with your team.
  • Review investment requests from the team to ensure they are complete and accurate prior to submitting them to senior management.
  • Manage the development and execution of more complex projects.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of project monitoring methodology and best practices.
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize the team to achieve business goals.
  • Develop your team by offering coaching, training, guidance, and the necessary tools, to successfully complete the organization’s projects.
  • Participate, as needed, in writing project specifications, and researching and selecting project-appropriate suppliers.
  • Plan, supervise, and monitor the various stages of project completion (timelines, quality standards, critical points, cost compliance, etc.).
  • Ensure regular collaboration and communication between members of multidisciplinary teams (Production, Quality Control, Maintenance, HR, etc.).
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project progress, measure deviations from expected performance and timelines, and recommend appropriate corrective measures as needed.

Main Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other training deemed relevant
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience including at least 3 years managing multidisciplinary projects in the manufacturing or agri-food sectors
  • Knowledge of front-end loading principles
  • Understanding of early equipment management (EEM)
  • Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (an asset)
  • Project management professional (PMP) certification (an important asset)
  • Experience in personnel management
  • Bilingual proficiency in spoken and written French and English
  • Ability to efficiently solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills, to properly target the needs of customers, team members, and other collaborators
  • Flexibility, with the ability to bounce back when faced with problems and to realign the strategy as needed
  • Outstanding planning and organizational skills, ability to easily visualize a project’s critical path, and plan the necessary actions accordingly while anticipating possible obstacles
  • Leadership skills, ability to rally people around a common goal and to invest the necessary effort to fulfil mandates
