The Assistant Director or Assistant Director of Freight, Supply Chain supervises the Train Data Recording team. The person in this role ensures that train movement data and train, car, and other asset assignments are accurate and recorded on time. This person also identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency related to route sheets and car movement. The person in this role collaborates with Train Data Recording representatives, decision-makers, and first-line assistant superintendents in operations, providing the necessary information and advice to facilitate a consistent and effective application of regulations related to data recording. The person in this role ensures a thorough understanding of collective agreements, both theoretically and practically, as well as company policies and codes of conduct.

Key Responsibilities

Train Data Recording Management

  • Create a positive learning environment and provide relevant coaching and feedback to team members
  • Ensure that Train Data Recording representatives have the necessary knowledge, skills, and support
  • Collaborate with Train Data Recording representatives to create a team spirit both within Train Data Recording Services and between Train Data Recording Services and external stakeholders
  • Ensure stakeholder satisfaction by identifying, studying, and resolving issues in a timely manner, improving information flow, and providing information on processes
  • Stay up-to-date with innovative complaint management practices and implement them
  • Determine workload trends at the center and ensure adequate staffing to meet demand
  • Support the Senior Director or Senior Director of Train Data Recording Services by providing quantitative and qualitative data on center performance
  • Conduct continuous performance, policy, and procedure evaluations at the center to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop and implement improvement strategies in a measured and effective manner to maximize understanding and compliance
  • Conduct investigations
  • Recommend corrective measures and address grievances based on collective agreements and company policies
  • Working Conditions

This position involves standard shift work in an office. The person in this role must be available to work shifts and weekends as needed. The position requires being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the position, the person must be able to meet tight deadlines, tolerate pressure, and manage stress.

Experience

  • Supervision
  • At least 2 years of experience in supervising a team, preferably in an administrative or call center environment
  • o Experience working in a unionized environment
  • o Experience with CN Operations*

Education, Certification, and Designation

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or equivalent*
  • Any designation in the fields above is an asset

  • Functional bilingualism, both orally and in writing (English and French)
  • Any designation in the fields above is an asset
