Drive a hearse or collection vehicle to transport the deceased from the place of death to the funeral home and from this establishment to the funeral service and burial location. Transport the coffin to the designated location.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist bearers in moving the deceased in a coffin to the funeral service or burial location.
• Arrive at the designated destination before or at the established time with the client's family or other concerned parties.
• Inspect and clean, if necessary, all vehicles before leaving the garage for passenger pickup.
• Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking the limousine, with appropriate attention and patience for disabled and elderly individuals.
• Assist the funeral director in moving the deceased in a coffin and necessary equipment between exhibition locations, funeral home chapel, church, or other service establishment.
• Assist the funeral director in forming the funeral procession and directing traffic at the funeral home and/or church parking lots.
• Drive the hearse, family limousine, or any other vehicle in the funeral procession and/or any other related activity, as requested.
• Assist in loading flowers into the vehicle for flowers and/or the hearse.
• Assist the funeral director with floral arrangements at the exhibition location, funeral home chapel, church, or any other location for the service, as requested.
• Transport the coffin as indicated by the funeral director or branch manager.
• Work as a team with other bearers: carry the load and move at the same pace.
• Participate (occasionally) in community awareness initiatives.
• Stay up-to-date with courses from the Dignity University.
• Perform other tasks as requested.
• MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Certification/License

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Experience

• A minimum of six (6) months of experience in a similar position.

Work Environment

• Work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
• A limited number of local and/or multiple location trips is required.
• Professional attire required when interacting with families.

• Frequent and continuous periods standing, up to 6 hours per day
• Sitting without interruption for many hours per day, up to 6 hours per day
• Frequently climbing stairs to access buildings

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 pounds); push/pull up to 90 kg (200 pounds)
• Physically demanding work requiring manual dexterity, including the use of documents, calculators, computers, and the telephone.
