What will your role entail?

The Digital Industries division of Siemens is looking for a highly qualified and motivated Applications Engineer/Specialist – Automation and Industrial Networking to join our Sales Acceleration Team. As a key contributor, you will support the growth of Siemens’ factory automation and industrial control solutions across Canada.

In this customer-facing role, you will collaborate closely with the field sales organization and our strategic partners to provide specialized technical advice, develop automation architectures, and support customers throughout the sales cycle.

Technical Expertise and Customer Support

  • Act as a technical expert for factory automation solutions in Canada.
  • Analyze customer needs, develop system demonstration feasibility architectures, and recommend suitable products.
  • Provide advanced technical support, including on-site troubleshooting, system optimization, and commissioning assistance.
  • Prepare and present technical proposals, demonstrations, and solution prototypes.
  • Help customers debug control systems, adjust machine functions, and optimize machine performance.

Solution Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with Siemens’ sales organization, authorized distributors, and solution partners to present Siemens’ automation technologies.
  • Size and design automation solutions based on application-specific requirements.
  • Influence customers and integrators on the effective use of SIMATIC platforms.
  • Develop sales support documents, demonstration programs, and technical/application presentation notes.
  • Support the product marketing team at launches, seminars, workshops, and customer events.

Knowledge Transfer and Collaboration

  • Ensure technical training and knowledge transfer to customers, Siemens teams, and intermediate partners.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, and offer advice on best practices.
  • Coordinate with Siemens’ headquarters and competence centers to meet complex project requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with technology advancements and industry trends.
  • Implement an annual learning and development plan focused on technical and professional growth.
  • Promote the adoption of advanced automation technologies to improve customer competitiveness.

What you will need to succeed

  • ... in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the factory automation systems industry
  • Excellent understanding of industrial applications involving factory automation products
  • Practical experience with industrial automation platforms and networks
  • Experience in programmable automation or software programming (ladder language, structured text, STL, C++, JavaScript, Visual Basic, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English (bilingualism, an asset)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel nationally with short notice up to 30% of the time

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with equipment manufacturers or system integrators
  • Knowledge of the following areas:
  • + Industrial networks
  • + Human-machine interface products and SCADA
  • + Factory and process automation
  • + Programmable controllers and controllers
  • + Machine safety
  • + Feasibility demonstration development
  • + Siemens SIMATIC platforms (an asset)
  • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
  • Google and/or Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate certification, an asset
  • Initiative with a proactive problem-solving approach

[The salary is proportional to experience and ranges between $90,000 CA and $130,000 CA, excluding bonuses and social benefits. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus ranging from 10% to 18% of the base salary, based on the company’s performance indicators.]

The candidate selected for this position must be bilingual. Proficiency in French and English (both spoken and written) is required to perform the duties and responsibilities associated with the position for the following reasons:

  • The position requires interacting with English-speaking customers and suppliers in Canada and/or abroad.
  • The position requires regular interaction with Siemens colleagues based outside Quebec, elsewhere in the country, and abroad.
  • The position requires the use of technologies or software that are only offered in English.
  • The position requires liaison with foreign government and regulatory agencies located in the United States and/or Europe
