Your Role as Principal Design Developer

Dialogue is building a connected healthcare experience where quality, trust, and speed are essential. As our first Principal Design Developer, your primary goal will be to enable Dialogue's designers and developers to deploy faster — with a higher level of quality, accessibility, and consistency. To achieve this, you will strengthen our design system, patterns, and contribution workflows. Your north star will be adoption: making the design system easy to use, trustworthy, and secure so that many collaborators can contribute, enabling teams to deliver faster while minimizing integration gaps.

Your Responsibilities

• Enable teams to deploy interfaces faster and more consistently: Build the foundations (components, *tokens*, templates, documentation, examples) and provide the necessary support (pairing, on-call) to make the design system the default solution.
• Drive design system adoption: Collaborate with different teams to migrate to shared components, host activation sessions (docs, examples, on-call), and make the design system the go-to standard, not just an option.
• Ensure interface quality at scale: Identify sources of inconsistency (UX drift, edge cases, accessibility gaps), fix them at the right level (component, *token*, directive, linting/test tool, workflow), and prevent regressions.
• Foster strong collaboration between Design and Development: Improve handoff processes and daily pairing so that designers and developers can iterate faster by avoiding misunderstandings.
• Facilitate safe changes: Design contribution workflows (proposal, review, merge, and deployment processes) so that improvements can come from multiple people, not just you.
• Support responsible AI-assisted development: Explore how AI can accelerate interface iterations while maintaining safeguards to ensure changes remain consistent, verifiable, and safe to deploy.

We would love to meet you if you have

• Senior-level experience in design and development: More than 5 years of experience in creating design systems and component libraries for digital product teams.
• Strong Front-end development skills: Solid experience in deploying user interfaces in production, along with comfort with code quality, testing, and maintainable architectures.
• Design sensibility and aptitude: You are capable of interpreting and questioning design decisions, spotting UX issues early, and implementing subtle interface details autonomously.
• Accessibility experience: Concrete ability to design accessible components and interactions (based on WCAG criteria), beyond just "checking boxes".
• Systemic mindset: You naturally seek leverage points — you solve root causes and build solid foundations instead of repeatedly fixing symptoms.
• Collaborative influence and leadership: You know how to align stakeholders, explain trade-offs, and move cross-team projects forward between Design, Product, and Development. You are comfortable influencing without hierarchical authority and building trust through partnership.
• Experience in regulated or high-trust product sectors (confidentiality, reliability, auditability).
• Familiarity with using AI tools to improve the speed and quality of your workflow.
