Description

Project Director or Manager for

Site Assessment and Remediation (Upstream Oil and Gas Industry)

No promise is more important than that of taking care of our environment, and we want to help you keep that promise.

Join our efforts to ensure a sustainable future for our communities and the world in which we live.

Join our global network of engineers, scientists, inspectors, planners, and environmental specialists working together to create a better world. Committed to sustainable development, GHD improves the physical, natural, and social environment of the communities in which we operate.

GHD offers an exciting opportunity for a Project Director to join our Site Assessment and Remediation team. In this key role, you will lead the delivery and governance of a portfolio of projects within a program. You will ensure the application of a structured project management framework, integrating quality assurance and control (QA/QC), regulatory compliance, rigorous documentation, and verifiable approval of deliverables on a daily basis.

Hybrid Work Policy:

At GHD, we favor a hybrid work model that combines in-person collaboration and flexibility. You will be invited to work in the office three days a week to contribute, collaborate, and thrive in a dynamic environment. This position can be based in one of our offices in the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga, Markham, Edmonton, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Quebec City, Halifax, Fredericton, St. John’s, Calgary, or Vancouver.

You will work with a dynamic and high-performing team, and this role offers a variety of tasks. You will be called upon to:

  • Approve project planning and ensure appropriate execution, including scope, schedule, resources, risks, and stakeholder communications.
  • Lead monthly project health reviews to confirm regulatory compliance, schedule adherence, technical progress, risks, and contractor performance; determine necessary corrective actions and ensure their follow-up until closure.
  • Ensure rigorous documentation and traceability: track deliverables, record transmitted and received communications, and maintain revision tracking for key deliverables, including plans, analytical data sets, reports, submissions, meeting minutes, and corrective actions.
  • Define and track communications, approvals, and deadline controls from the initiation and planning stages to meet report production obligations on time.
  • Oversee supplier and contractor governance, including the use of pre-qualified suppliers, review of work plans and procedures, and verification mechanisms in line with deliverable requirements.
  • Ensure verification and quality control of deliverables before external use; ensure that inspections, peer reviews, and management approvals are performed and documented in the project space.
  • Collaborate with the program manager regarding escalations, decision-making authority, and alignment with program governance and performance indicators.
  • Promote a culture focused on health and safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, where controls are integrated into work processes from the outset, rather than added later.

What you will bring to the team

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing complex or high-risk projects in regulated environments, such as in the environment, engineering, or site remediation.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, assurance and verification processes, and documentary controls necessary for compliance and deliverable traceability.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and contractors, with the ability to mobilize stakeholders around common goals.
  • Excellent planning, progress tracking, reporting, and communication skills with clients, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with tools and methods aligned with PMBOK principles, such as communication and deliverable plans, work breakdown structure (WBS)-based planning, and structured project health reviews.
  • Experience with integrated data flows and dashboards to ensure visibility on compliance, project performance, and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, geology, environmental sciences, or a related field.
  • Holding (or in the process of obtaining) an engineer’s license from the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or a geologist’s license from the Ordre des géologues du Québec (OGQ) will be considered an asset.
  • More than 10 years of experience in environmental consulting, including site remediation, site environmental assessments, report writing, data management and interpretation, project coordination, and client relationship management.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to meet clients, as needed.
  • Experience with recurring and high-volume programs, where standardization and automation are used to improve efficiency.
  • Familiarity with analytical dashboards and data management practices to support compliance tracking and decision-making.
