Surveyor Technician

  • The Challenges We Offer You:

Under the authority of the Director of Coordination and Relations with the Environment and under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Surveying Module, the incumbent collects and analyzes topographic and land data, performs surveys using technological tools, and produces the required survey deliverables (calculations, digital terrain models, planimetric representations, compilations and plans) using a CDAO system, to support highway projects and environmental requests.

Field Surveys

  • Plan and perform surveying surveys and geometric and trigonometric leveling operations, including data collection and the installation of geodetic or permanent stations integrated into the Quebec geodetic network.
  • Perform the required land surveys to reconstruct the land framework of the studied territory and establish property boundaries to produce surveying plans, including the calculation of land rights and rights of adjacent property owners (MTMD and riparian owners) as well as inquiries with property owners (land claims and location of underground facilities).
  • Proceed with the installation of surveying stakes to delimit highway rights-of-way and perform a systematic survey of markers to verify their accuracy, within the framework of the construction of highway projects, the maintenance of roads or disputes/encroachments of adjacent property owners.
  • Retrieve, transfer, process and validate data from field observations and the electronic field notebook using specialized software and ministry applications.
  • Correct capture errors and produce digital terrain models.
  • Perform editing and complete the representation of planimetric information of the site, then perform the required technical calculations (including the combined scale factor) under the supervision of the surveyor or senior technician.

Construction Site Surveying

  • Perform the required surveys on the ground for the preparation of 3D models and the implementation of highway projects.
  • Provide proactive support to the site supervisor and perform surveys, the installation of alignments and surfaces necessary for the supervision, verification and follow-up of highway construction.
  • Perform measurement of quantities for payment (excavation, embankment and earthwork materials) using precision instruments: levels, total stations, GPS equipment and electronic field notebooks.

Research and Preparation of Plans

  • Identify particular problems, develop a research plan and carry out research on titles in the Real Estate and Land Registry (Land Registry).
  • Collect land information (public records and courthouses... and perform the necessary research/steps to obtain unpublished documents in the Land Registry.
  • Produce a compilation of the collected information, analyze land documents (property titles, cadastral plans, plans... etc.), compile information related to property boundaries and classify documents.
  • Respond to information requests from internal and external clients (engineer, surveyor, appraiser, municipality, public service company) regarding the location of highway rights-of-way, in compliance with laws and regulations on access to information and the confidentiality of personal information.
  • Produce the deliverables required by the surveyor: acquisition plans, technical descriptions, owner tables, survey plans, right-of-way plans, bathymetric plans, plans of excess buildings or any other plan/document required, including cadastral plans in accordance with the instructions of the MRNF.
  • Ensure document management: archive files at the common registry of surveyors in the direction, transmit documents to clients and perform searches in the common registry to provide information to various clients.

  • The Person We Are Looking For Must Meet the Job Requirements:
  • Hold a technical college diploma in the field of civil engineering, mechanical engineering or any other relevant technical college diploma or a relevant study certificate whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority.
  • Possess Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or a work permit issued by the federal competent authority to occupy a position in the public service of Quebec²;
  • Have appropriate knowledge of French for the functions.
