  • The internal title for this position is Purchasing Manager

As a Purchasing Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Procurement Operations, you will support, coordinate, and guide the team of material buyers, external rental services, and transportation. You will also be responsible for participating in renewals and creating various types of agreements with suppliers and ensuring their compliance. Some types of purchases will need to be executed directly by the holder of this position. You will also provide technical support to the various actors in the procurement cell.

What you will do

  • Manage the daily operations of a team of approximately 12 buyers
  • Find suppliers and manage relationships with them, as well as key/strategic supplier accounts, to optimize financial and operational performance. This will be done in conjunction with our strategic procurement department
  • Link operational needs with the strategic procurement department to adjust existing or upcoming agreements
  • Identify potential suppliers, evaluate proposals, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, ensuring the best quality-price ratio.
  • Make purchases of special and large-volume products
  • Process the opening of accounts for new suppliers;
  • Provide technical support for the platforms used (ERP, Service now, internal procedures, etc)
  • Request quotations from suppliers;
  • Attend relevant trade shows for the position.
  • Ensure cohesion between the purchasing department and field buyers.
  • Collaborate with the accounts payable department to maintain good relationships and payments to our suppliers,
  • Develop and maintain procurement files, including contracts, purchase orders, and supplier performance indicators.
  • Develop and prepare reports for executive staff to provide an update on the procurement process and corrective action plans if necessary.
  • Ensure that all procurement activities are carried out in accordance with internal procedures as well as legal and ethical standards.
  • Visit construction projects to develop local procurement resources if necessary.
  • Support new improvement initiatives (technology) implemented in the purchasing department,
  • This position is for you if you have
  • More than 5 years of experience in the field of procurement in construction.
  • Experience, knowledge, and existing relationships with major local suppliers across Canada would be an asset.
  • Experience with the implementation and use of an ERP.
  • Practical experience with procurement processes, methods, practices, and contract administration, as well as accounting and planning principles.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, including sourcing, contracting, negotiation, and supplier management.
  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.
  • Availability to travel to monitor the performance of the purchasing team and major suppliers,
