Job Objective:

The Automation Chef ensures the development and maintenance of engineering and validation requirements for automated systems and industrial control equipment at the site.

They manage all activities within their department, including personnel management and development, budgets, schedules, and the quality and compliance of required SOPs.

They must operate in a technically complex and diverse environment that includes topics such as computing, industrial electronics, automation, electrical distribution, and mechanics. They must have the ability and skill to represent automation functions to regulatory entities during inspections and responses.

They must ensure that their department's activities are conducted proactively at all stages of projects. This role also requires the ability to quickly resolve technical and organizational issues.

Details (Your Responsibilities):

This position offers the opportunity to lead key activities to advance your career. These responsibilities include: Operational

  • Responsible for the development of the site's automation systems and equipment strategy and ensures its execution while ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System, as well as with various regulations and standards in force (Building Code, GMP, ISO, GES, etc.);
  • Ensures technological vigilance for their area of expertise;
  • Guardian of automation domain procedures and risk management during the elaboration of design, startup, and qualification strategies for systems and equipment in their field of activity;
  • Ensures the maintenance of expertise in their field of activity and oversees the development of personnel under their responsibility;
  • Responsible for managing, developing, and evaluating a team of up to 15 professional engineers and technicians;
  • Ensures liaison with other GSK sites in the context of multi-site projects and initiatives;
  • Prioritizes activities and ensures precise planning of resources and skills for all operational and project activities of their team;
  • Responsible for the team's budget (OPEX and CAPEX);
  • Ensures that their team works according to the applicable health, safety, and environmental procedures;
  • Drives and guarantees the management, reliability, and security of OT industrial networks and local automation infrastructures (including architecture, cybersecurity, access, and backups);
  • Drives and guarantees the implementation of site automation projects (including the design, validation, implementation of automated systems, and alignment with quality, regulatory, and operational requirements);
  • Drives and guarantees the strategy for managing the obsolescence of automated systems (including identifying risks, prioritizing, planning replacements, and technological vigilance);
  • Drives and guarantees third-line support for operations and maintenance for automated systems (including advanced diagnostics, resolution of complex incidents, and support for root cause analysis).
  • Quality
  • Know, apply, and enforce procedures related to their sector;
  • Ensure the updating of sector procedures;
  • Ensure the identification of appropriate quality problem escalation documentation related to their sector;
  • Participate and support investigations in case of deviations and CAPA;
  • Participate in audits and inspections related to their sector.
  • Health and Safety
  • Respect and enforce health, safety, and environmental procedures;
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in health, safety, and environmental matters;
  • Participate in risk analyses for their sector;
  • Respect and enforce safety rules, including PPE;
  • Ensure safety by reporting risky situations and stopping any dangerous situation of which they are aware;
  • Identify improvement vectors.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, automation, Mechanics, electrical, computer science, or chemistry.
  • Essential Canadian equivalence if the degree was not obtained in Canada.

Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience as a manager in the field of automation, industrial controls, IT, or engineering.
  • Ability to develop and implement automation and computer systems strategies. Team, project, and budget management.
  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec;
  • Ability to analyze engineering risk assessments and make quick decisions and establish recommendations on the means to advance;
  • Proven and mature leadership, ability to lead a team of experienced engineers and technicians;
  • Excellent written and oral communication in French and English.

In this role, the incumbent must interact and collaborate daily with external/internal stakeholders in other provinces/countries who do not speak French.*
