Hiring Unit: Student Housing \& Hospitality Services
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Senior Maintenance Manager. Undertake building inspections and projects. Plan, prioritize and execute maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance contracts. Ensure that facilities are presentable and functional at all times. Confer with contractors and McGill staff in order to plan and co-ordinate manpower needs. Assess and resolve administrative problems. Oversee expenditures within Residence’s operating guidelines. Purchase supplies and monitor use of materials used in maintenance/repair operations. Coordinate maintenance with Redbourne and the Le Cite complex for infrastructure services. Directly supervise maintenance staff and schedule/assign workload in different buildings for student housing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide the best possible research and learning environment for students, staff and visitors through quality services, reliable and cost-effective maintenance, renovations, construction projects and building operations of the University’s physical resources.
- Provide the planning, development, implementation, and required to ensure the protection, safety and maintenance of university property and resources. Foster a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain and improve the standards for the protection, security and maintenance of university property.
- Provide quality business operations to support the daily needs of students and staff, such as Buildings and Grounds, Residences, Food Services, Housekeeping, Parking, Mailroom, Printing and Bookstore operations, Athletics and Recreation, etc.
- Ensure that facilities, operations and maintenance tasks and projects meet or exceed established quality standards. Ensure that regulations, legislation, policies, and procedures concerning buildings and grounds are respected.
- Directly supervise employees, assist in training, meet regularly to assign, verify work. Prepare performance reviews, probation, trial period documents and weekly work schedules. Approve vacation and absences.
- Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
- Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Three (3) years related experience. Required to be on site 5 days out of the week. Project management in the construction field, an asset. Able to respond requests and questions from stakeholders and clients on a timely fashion. Must be bilingual. Specialization in the construction field (i.e. Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc) preferable. Computer literacy, required.
