Saint-Gobain offers you an exciting career opportunity as a Process Engineer for its plant, Construction Materials KP Ltd., in Cowansville.
The Process Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, mastery, and continuous improvement of the vinyl coating manufacturing processes while ensuring product compliance with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
This role combines the activities of process control (stability, parameter setting, variation, SPC) and other plant activities, all oriented towards operational excellence. The person acts as a bridge between production, engineering, and R&D to reduce variations, limit losses, improve performance, and secure product quality.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain robust process controls to ensure product and raw material compliance with established specifications.
- Reduce process variability using statistical tools (SPC), advanced data analysis, and structured problem-solving methods.
- Identify and prioritize improvement opportunities using loss stratification, inter-plant benchmarking, and WCM tools.
- Define, maintain, and communicate critical process parameters, including control limits, optimal operating points, and intervention criteria.
- Plan, supervise, and conduct process trials, document results, and produce associated technical reports.
- Promote a proactive process management culture by ensuring rigorous tracking of critical parameters and rapid response to deviations.
- Collaborate with R&D teams and process experts to industrialize best practices and optimize operational performance.
- Train and support supervisors and operators to enhance their understanding of processes and decision-making capabilities.
- Support the quality management system by maintaining documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
- Recommend and follow up on corrective and preventive action (CAPA) initiatives to improve process quality and performance.
- Participate in inspections and customer visits as required.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction, and contribute to their implementation.
- Lead or participate in Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and WCM initiatives related to quality, process improvement, and operational excellence.
- Support change management by conducting risk assessments, validations, and required documentation, while collaborating with engineering and maintenance during the implementation of new equipment.
- Serve as a technical reference for teams, fostering skill development, problem-solving, collaboration, and a quality-focused, rigorous operational culture.
- Perform any other related tasks.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
- University degree in engineering (chemical, mechanical, process, or plastics) or equivalent experience.
- 3 to 7 years of experience in manufacturing in a technical role related to processes or quality.
- OIQ member (an asset)
- Experience in PVC extrusion or polymer industry (an asset).
- Understanding of plastic transformation processes and extrusion (an asset).
- Proficiency in data analysis and process statistical control (SPC).
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, data analysis tools, and ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP.
- Knowledge of ISO quality management systems.
- Recognized problem-solving skills; knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies is an asset.
- Strong ability to diagnose root causes of problems and quickly intervene in a production environment.
- Positive leadership, strong results-oriented mindset, and excellent prioritization skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including production, R&D, engineering, and corporate quality teams.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate technical concepts.
- Primarily work in the plant with regular presence on the production floor.
- Occasional availability outside normal working hours to respond to emergencies or participate in production trials.
