Role Summary

The Application Engineer is responsible for developing technically sound and commercially competitive solutions that support the successful delivery of XNRGY's HVAC products which include custom air handlers and data center units. Acting as the technical liaison between sales, customers, engineering, manufacturing, and project management, the application engineer transforms customer requirements into executable designs and production-ready documentation.

This role supports the entire project lifecycle, from proposal preparation and technical proposal development to presentation documents, project launch, and post-contract technical support, while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, company standards, and manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Application Support

  • Analyze customer specifications, drawings, and project requirements to develop optimal technical solutions.
  • Support the evaluation process by analyzing technical feasibility, manufacturing considerations, and project risks.
  • Prepare project proposals, RFP documents, and precise technical documentation.
  • Develop project costs in collaboration with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Coordinate pricing requests for custom components, transportation, electrical systems, and control systems.
  • Assist sales representatives during the proposal process by providing technical expertise and product recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, consulting engineers, and sales representatives.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations to support business development activities.

Engineering and Technical Documentation

  • Design and prepare technical documentation, including dimensional drawings and product configurations.
  • Develop mechanical documentation and coordinate drawing activities with design teams.
  • Select appropriate components based on project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Prepare and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and ensure their technical accuracy.
  • Prepare project presentation documents following contract award.
  • Coordinate the review, approval, and revision of customer presentation documents.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation is complete, accurate, and ready for transfer to production.

Project Execution

  • Support sales order entry by ensuring all required technical information is complete.
  • Finalize engineering Bill of Materials (EBoM) and validate electrical and control documentation.
  • Coordinate project documentation before transfer to manufacturing.
  • Manage engineering changes throughout the project lifecycle, including change orders and revised presentation documents.
  • Participate in technical reviews and quality controls to ensure project accuracy before production.
  • Support manufacturing, service, and project management teams by resolving technical issues and responding to field requests.

Continuous Improvement

  • Train sales representatives on XNRGY products, selection tools, and design applications.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of sales tools, engineering models, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and improve standardized operating procedures (SOP).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing engineering efficiency and documentation quality.
  • Participate in customer plant visits, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and witness tests in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry standards, emerging technologies, and product innovations.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in application engineering, mechanical design, HVAC, data centers, or custom equipment manufacturing.
  • Experience in preparing technical proposals, presentation documents, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with custom-designed products is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent understanding of HVAC systems, air handling units, data center systems, or similar mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and construction documents.
  • Experience with CAD software and ERP systems (experience with Epicor is an asset).
  • Solid knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
