Description of the Ministry or Organization
The Public Guardian ensures the protection of incapacitated individuals, safeguards their autonomy, and respects their rights while supporting their families and close relatives in their roles. They also provide services to individuals benefiting from the assistance measure and their assistants.
General Information
The Montreal Territorial Directorate is seeking to fill an occasional position for a duration of one year.
The start date is scheduled for August 2026.

Responsibilities
The person holding the position acts as a delegate curator at reception for individuals for whom the Public Guardian has received a report from a general director or director of professional services of an establishment in the Health and Social Services Network, which establishes the incapacity of a person and, for this reason, makes a request for the opening of a protection regime.
In this capacity, they intervene by evaluating the situation of the person and their environment and assess the need for representation of the incapacitated person while recommending the least restrictive measure of rights for them.
More specifically, in:
- Becoming familiar with the General Director's (D.G.) report, analyzing the information, and identifying the needs for a protection regime, all in the interest, safeguarding of autonomy, and respect for the rights of the adult;
- Developing and implementing an intervention strategy to ensure the conditions for adequate protection of the person on the psychosocial, biomedical, financial, and legal planes;
- Verifying, upon receipt of the judgment, the adequacy between the court's judgment and the Public Guardian of Quebec's recommendation in order to recommend to the legal services to prepare a request for revision at the court if necessary or to recommend appealing the rendered judgment;
- Handling reports according to the established procedure;
- Responding to information requests from the RSSS in connection with requests for opening protection.
- Salary Scale: From $55,611 to $103,369

The number of weekly working hours for this position is 35 hours.

Desired Profile and Application Procedures
Hold a bachelor's degree (minimum of 90 credits) in social sciences or any other relevant discipline.
- The candidacy of a person who is in the process of completing the final year of study required for the acquisition of the required degree may be considered.
- Each missing year of study can be compensated by one year of relevant study at the same or higher level as required. The required degree can also be compensated by a master's degree in a relevant discipline comprising a minimum of 45 credits.
- For consideration, any study completed outside Canada must be subject to a comparative evaluation (equivalence certificate) issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration.
Possess Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority to hold a position in the Quebec Public Service.
- A person awaiting proof of permanent resident status or a work permit may submit their candidacy to the present selection process. However, they must be authorized to work legally in Canada at the time of their appointment.
Have appropriate knowledge of French for the functions.
