As a Legal Advisor, the successful candidate will work closely with various departments and play a crucial role in achieving the company's strategic objectives. This position requires a high level of responsibility and involves providing fast, thorough, and pragmatic legal services, including advising the company on its legal obligations, identifying and assessing legal risks, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies, and negotiating complex contractual terms to protect the organization's interests. The selected individual will adopt a results-oriented approach in their interactions with key stakeholders and will act as a strategic partner and key facilitator within a dynamic and growing company.

Specifically, you will:

  • Prepare and negotiate commercial agreements across all functional areas, leveraging strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Quickly assimilate and apply technical skills to a wide range of business initiatives.
  • Monitor risks, identify issues, and propose action plans or solutions.
  • Conduct legal risk assessments and contribute to the preparation of tender submissions and proposal packages.
  • Develop, draft, and update legal templates and standard operating procedures, and recommend process improvements for the legal department.
  • Guide and support contract management and supply chain teams to ensure appropriate contractual terms are communicated to subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external lawyers, as needed, to support business opportunities while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Provide quick and pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of business initiatives, including public procurement, procurement, construction, regulatory affairs, sales, and marketing, as well as competition law.
  • Respond to access to information requests and government filings and requirements as they arise.
  • Deliver legal and compliance training to colleagues across various internal departments.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial law within a law firm, government agency, or corporation.
  • In good standing with a Canadian bar association.
