A. General Description of the Role
The primary role of the Quality Control Inspector is to dimensionally and visually inspect parts, products, and materials using the proper measurement tools and statistical sampling techniques to verify conformance to engineering drawing specifications, apply all necessary standards related to this job, and get all other technical sheets, documents properly saved.
B. Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, checks, tests, and sampling procedures for parts, materials, and subassemblies.
- Approve incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; and rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
- Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to the supervisor.
- Keep measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions.
- Assist Production personnel with training, care, and use of measuring instruments.
- Conduct housekeeping for personal work area and shared facility space.
- Observe and comply with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and statutory requirements associated with this job description.
- Perform First Article Inspection to start each production order line of the assembly line assigned to the QC inspector.
- Inspect fixtures in process and ensure these match matching specifications on the order.
- Analyze problems detected at production lines with non-conforming raw materials, and provide Problem Description and containment actions to production lines.
- Isolate and identify non-conforming fixtures or raw materials detected in production lines.
- Ensure that raw material returned from production to Stores is conforming to its specifications.
- Receive training on the manufacturing and quality of new products from the New Product Introduction team and transfer, through training, that knowledge and documentation to the other assigned manufacturing cells.
- Identify opportunities for waste elimination as per Lean 7 Wastes Principles and suggest improvement through Axis suggestion systems or the Engineering Change Request process.
- Analyze customer complaints caused at their assigned wiring cells, investigate root causes, and propose corrective actions to avoid reoccurrence of the issues.
- Share with the production cell leadership – LH, UOs, QC assemblers – customer complaints received, or Quality Alerts are registered on the training sheet as evidence of the discussion.
- Participate/Conduct 5 S Audits – Gemba walks for the areas assigned to him in the Auditing Schedule.
- Participate in the rejected material disposition – Scrap/Rework/Use as is – log the scrap logs the data and use it for Continuous improvement projects.
- Review SOs for his business unit in advance to identify SOs that required to have a sample built before production (SP-L2, L3, L4 or large qty of fixtures…) and build the sample to ensure there will be no line-stopping issues.
- Log Rejection material in Quality Data Base, investigate root causes and analyze data to propose continuous improvement projects.
- Execute the daily validation of the precision measurement systems assigned to him.
- Verify After Sales SO assigned to his group and ensure that requirements are met.
- Other duties as required and/or assigned.
- C. Education
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, Engineering, Quality, Sciences
- D. Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of QA/QC inspection experience in a manufacturing environment
- E. Software
- Office especially Excel (intermediate level or better)
- F. Skills
Mechanically inclined, good communication skills, Ability to work in a team setting, Multitasking, Ability to read and interpret all types of mechanical drawings, diagrams, spec sheets, technical standards, Complete understanding of measuring instruments, how to interpret and maintain them, Proven problem-solving skills, Excellent organizational capabilities.
