Lawyer in Housing Law (Two Positions Available) *ABOUT US*
Défends-toit is one of the few private law firms in Quebec to exclusively practice the representation of tenants.
Every day, we represent tenants facing complex situations: evictions, housing takeovers, unsanitary conditions, harassment, discrimination, housing losses, and violations of their fundamental rights.
Our practice goes far beyond the handling of individual cases. We develop innovative arguments, plead complex cases, and actively contribute to the evolution of housing law in Quebec.
As part of our growth, we are currently looking for two lawyers who wish to practice law differently: with rigor, humanity, and the conviction that each case can truly make a difference.
*WHAT YOU WILL DO*
- Meet with clients, analyze their situations, and determine the appropriate recourses.
- Provide clear, accessible, and tailored legal advice to each person.
- Manage your cases independently with the support of the team.
- Prepare cases for hearings.
- Write procedures, legal opinions, notices of demand, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research to support representation strategies.
- Represent tenants before the Housing Administrative Tribunal and, when required, before judicial courts.
- Negotiate settlements.
- Develop tailored legal strategies to address the issues of each case.
- Collaborate with other lawyers, legal technicians, and support staff.
- Participate in the development of case law and the mission of the firm.
- *ABOUT YOU*
- You are a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
- You have experience in housing law.
- You are capable of managing your cases independently.
- You have good legal writing and advocacy skills.
- You demonstrate rigor, organization, and excellent judgment.
- You enjoy working in a team and sharing your knowledge.
- You show empathy towards a vulnerable clientele.
- You wish to practice in an environment where your work has a concrete impact.
- *WHAT WE OFFER*
- A permanent full-time position (35 hours/week).
- A competitive salary based on experience.
- Reimbursement of the OPUS Zone A card.
- Payment of professional dues.
- Paid sick leave, flexible hours, and paid vacation.
- Personalized support and mentorship by experienced lawyers in the firm, fostering the development of your skills, autonomy, and confidence in court.
- A stimulating, human, and collaborative work environment.
- Varied cases with a real social impact.
- The opportunity to contribute to the development of housing law and numerous related projects.
- *WHY DÉFENDS-TOIT?*
At Défends-toit, we believe that a good lawyer not only changes the outcome of a case but can change a person's life and contribute to the evolution of the law.
If this vision of practice inspires you, we would be happy to meet you.
