Since its reopening in 2022, after a significant transformation, the Insectarium offers a unique immersive experience in North America, allowing visitors to discover a wide diversity of living and naturalized insects in a fascinating universe dedicated to biodiversity.
Your Mandate
You manage a team of 5-8 unionized employees consisting of specialized horticulturists, horticulturists, and gardeners whose activities involve maintaining and enriching a diverse living plant collection to ensure the operation and renewal of exhibitions, and you act as support to other managers for the entire blue-collar team (approximately 15 employees). You are responsible for the management of material resources and operations related to the horticultural aspect of the institutions' activities and ensure field monitoring of safety needs for the five museums of Life for All. More specifically, you must:
- Supervise and mentor the horticultural team: work planning, scheduling, employee mentoring, maintaining a healthy work environment, and compliance with SST standards.
- Manage financial and material resources: budget tracking, procurement and inventory management, equipment needs assessment.
- Coordinate horticultural and snow removal operations: tracking of living collections, cultivation conditions, and operations in collaboration with specialists.
- Ensure operational and technical liaison: coordination with technical services, vehicle fleet management, and participation in health and safety files.
- Ensure operational safety needs monitoring for all Life for All museums (security, emergency measures, safety-related activities).
- Collaborate with museum directors and agencies on safety issues and ensure liaison with the external supplier.
PROFILE REQUIRED
- College diploma in horticulture or a relevant field
- 4 years of relevant experience in ornamental horticulture and greenhouse production or plant maintenance
- 2 years of experience in team management or coordination
- Valid driver's license (Class 5)
- Valid construction safety card (ASP) (an asset)
