The McGill University Health Centre Research Institute (IR-CUSM) is a world-renowned research center in the fields of biomedical sciences and health care. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute serves as the research base for the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), a university-affiliated hospital center attached to the McGill University Faculty of Medicine. The IR-CUSM is partially funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Research Department / Program: Cancer Research Program (CRP)

The candidate will contribute to the Quebec Study on Pancreatic Cancer (QSPC) and affiliated clinical trials and consortia, including the Marathon of Hope Cancer Center Network (MOHCCN), which brings together Canada's leading cancer centers to collaborate on precision medicine for cancer patients and stimulate innovation. The QSPC was created in 2011 as a family registry of patients for pancreatic cancer and associated clinical conditions. The clinical activities of the QSPC include consultation and real-time genetic testing for patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The main research objectives of the QSPC are to characterize the genetic susceptibility to pancreatic cancer, identify early detection biomarkers and modifiable risk factors, and develop clinical surveillance protocols for individuals at high risk of developing pancreatic cancer.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage patients and samples enrolled in the MOHCCN project, including participant selection, review and management of clinical data, and coordination of samples with the research laboratory team.
• Manage the QSPC patient registry at the MUHC site, including patient enrollment, biospecimen collection, and data entry.
• Facilitate genetic testing for patients with pancreatic cancer enrolled in the study in collaboration with the senior genetic counselor.
• Prescreen to identify patients eligible to participate in the QSPC and its affiliated studies.
• Recruit eligible patients to the QSPC and its affiliated studies, including obtaining family history and constructing family trees.
• Support patients for genetic testing and study participation requirements by scheduling and coordinating clinical research appointments, genetic testing, and biospecimen collections.
• Complete participant registration by 1) obtaining authorization for access to medical records and archived biospecimens and 2) submitting requests for access to medical records and/or acquisition of archived biospecimens.
• Data entry and management of online databases.
• Assist in reporting genetic test results to patients and treating physicians.

Education: College Diploma (DEC)

• Field of Study: Biology, Genetics, Clinical Research, Nursing Care
• Additional Education Considered an Asset for this Position: Psychology, Counseling

Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting (patient-focused clinical research)

Required Skills

• This position requires advanced knowledge of spoken and written French.
• Advanced knowledge of spoken and written English is required as the position requires regular and complex contact with patients who speak exclusively English.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Ability to work autonomously and with teams with minimal supervision,
• Experience with electronic data capture applications for clinical research is an asset.
