  • General Information

The position is to be filled at the civil, criminal, penal, and youth registry service of the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse.

This is a one-year occasional position - on call

The person holding the position must work in a fully in-person mode only

On a daily basis

Under the leadership of your immediate supervisor, the person holding the position provides legal support to the client, legal technicians, and in the courtroom by assisting the client, processing procedures, and performing administrative and procedural tasks before, during, and after hearings. To do this, they are required to:

  • Ensure the smooth running of hearings, including completing all required documents such as the minutes and various forms according to the court's decisions, and monitor the operation of recording and videoconferencing systems;
  • Update, according to established procedures, the entire court file, receive and file documents, and ensure their safekeeping in accordance with the chain of custody;
  • After the hearing, analyze the court's decisions to produce and transmit relevant information and documents for the continuation of the procedure and forward them to the concerned parties;
  • Ensure that all files are complete, deadlines are met, and then perform all necessary administrative and legal formalities;
  • Analyze the compliance of the various submitted procedures and ensure the progression of the file according to operational procedures or court orders;
  • Receive the request from the litigant, define their need, and provide the required assistance and relevant legal information for their situation, according to the sector and applicable matter;
  • Act as judicial support at the hearing by performing administrative and procedural tasks before, during, and after hearings;
  • Provide accompaniment and support to judicial activity agents;

Additionally, in the performance of their duties, the judicial paratechnician may be called upon to initiate new judicial paratechnicians in their work.

Salary Scale: From $24.66 to $35.32/hour*

  • A 6.5% addition is added to the salary to compensate for certain social benefits.

A temporary declining bonus of 6% is also added to the salary until December 4, 2026. Note that the sum of the temporary declining bonus and the salary cannot exceed the maximum of the salary scale.

These amounts do not include the 0.11% adjustment based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This adjustment will be made later, retroactively as of March 31, 2026.

The number of weekly hours for this position may vary from week to week according to organizational needs.

  • Hold a high school diploma (DES) or a relevant certificate of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority.

Each missing year of schooling can be compensated by two years of paid or unpaid work experience, including family workload. The DES can also be compensated by a professional specialization certificate or a professional studies diploma.

  • Possess two years of post-secondary education relevant to the position.

A person can submit their application if they are in the process of completing the last year of required schooling.

For consideration, any schooling completed outside of Canada must be subject to a comparative evaluation (equivalence certificate) issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration.

Each missing year of post-secondary education can be compensated by two years of relevant experience in the position's duties.

Relevant experiences acquired in the workforce as well as those acquired outside of the workforce are recognized. Additionally, relevant experiences acquired during the same period can be combined without exceeding the duration of that period of concomitance.

  • Possess Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority allowing work within our organization.

A person awaiting proof of permanent resident status or a work permit allowing work within our organization can submit their application to this selection process. However, they must be authorized to work legally in Canada at the time of their appointment.

  • Have appropriate knowledge of French for the functions.
  • Hiring is conditional upon the results of a security check.
