Responsibilities

  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve escalated application and infrastructure incidents related to network connectivity, server performance, firewall issues, backup failures, application availability, and Azure resources.
  • Analyze performance metrics and logs from monitoring tools (e.g., ConnectWise Automate, Auvik, Azure Monitor, and backup platforms) to identify root causes and infrastructure bottlenecks.
  • Manage and execute patch deployment cycles for Windows Server operating systems and applications using tools such as ConnectWise Automate or Microsoft Intune.
  • Implement approved configuration changes on network equipment, servers, and firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto) in accordance with change management processes.
  • Perform advanced server monitoring and management, including performance optimization, OS-level troubleshooting, and server role and feature configuration.
  • Conduct firewall monitoring and management activities, including log analysis, connectivity troubleshooting, and rule change implementation.
  • Manage backup operations, including troubleshooting failures, executing restores (files, virtual machines, or applications), and validating backup integrity using platforms like Veeam.
  • Maintain and verify backups of network equipment and firewall configurations.
  • Perform operational tasks in Microsoft Azure environments, including virtual machine management, service restarts, and responding to Azure Advisor alerts.
  • Collaborate with SOC analysts during integrated incidents by providing infrastructure expertise and supporting coordinated response efforts.
  • Document incident resolutions, technical observations, and configuration changes in ticketing systems (ConnectWise Manage) and knowledge bases.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of NOC standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Level 1 analysts to support skill development within the team.
  • Participate in shift handovers to ensure operational continuity and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

Essential Skills

  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a 24/7 environment.
  • High attention to detail and rigor in documentation.

Technical Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced experience in Windows Server administration (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy); experience with Linux is a plus.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLAN, firewall, VPN).
  • Practical experience with RMM tools (ConnectWise Automate and ScreenConnect strongly preferred).
  • Experience with patch management processes and tools.
  • Practical experience in firewall management and troubleshooting platforms (Fortinet, Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto).
  • Proficiency with backup and disaster recovery solutions, particularly Veeam Backup & Replication.
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Azure (virtual machines, virtual networks, storage, Azure Monitor).
  • Basic knowledge of automation and scripting (PowerShell preferred).
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Auvik is a plus.

Experience and Certifications

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in a NOC engineer, systems administrator, network administrator, or similar infrastructure support role.
  • The following certifications are strongly desired:
  • + CompTIA Network+, Server+, Security+
  • + Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • + Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator (AZ-800/801) or equivalent
  • + Firewall certifications (Fortinet NSE, Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto)
  • + Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) or equivalent
