About À pas de géant

The À pas de géant Autism Centre is a recognized leader in the field of education, playing a central role in supporting and achieving the success of autistic individuals. It is primarily a private school, recognized and subsidized in the public interest, which welcomes autistic students aged 4 to 21 in preschool (ages 4 and 5), primary, and secondary programs. Additionally, it includes an adult education and employability services pillar, as well as a Resource and Training Centre and a Research and Innovation pillar. Students follow a program adapted to their needs, in a bilingual (French and English) intensive, personalized, interdisciplinary, and holistic learning environment. The Centre brings together a team of 125 dedicated employees who work closely together to promote the well-being, development, and full inclusion of each student and the community.

Role Overview

The teacher prepares and teaches their courses considering the overall developmental level of the class. They collaborate with various school staff to support students' learning in different contexts. The teacher also plays a supervisory role for their classroom team.

Main Responsibilities : Pedagogical Activities:

• Develops, revises, and updates each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in collaboration with the relevant intervenants;
• Prepares programs, routines, schedules, and teaching materials according to the class's developmental level and students' needs;
• Teaches daily, adapting materials to the group and each student's needs;
• Evaluates program performance and adjusts accordingly;
• Advises, consults, accompanies, and communicates with families regarding the development and implementation of academic programs at school and home;
• Participates in relevant multidisciplinary meetings (IEP, curriculum, classroom management, admissions, clinics, pedagogical, etc.), as needed;
• Participates in the continuous improvement of educational programs in collaboration with the Director of Pedagogical Services;
• Provides a favorable environment for the development of healthy lifestyle habits and skills that positively influence the student's health and well-being;
• Ensures the supervision and safety of students at all times and provides support for personal hygiene when necessary, especially outside the classroom;
• Maintains communication with parents;
• Maintains a clean and organized classroom to foster a learning-friendly environment;
• Administrative Management:
• Ensures compliance with government-required documents (report cards, schedules, attendance records, IEPs, etc.);
• Maintains regular and complete records of evaluations, interventions, and students' progress;
• Completes report cards according to the pedagogical schedule;
• Health and Safety:
• Documents any incidents or accidents that occur in the classroom and collaborates with the behavioral support team to restore a learning climate and complete the required documents;
• Ensures the application of CPI training techniques (crisis prevention and intervention – autistic clientele);
• Supervises dinners and play areas, both inside and outside the school, including during community outings;
• Supervision:
• Supervises and trains the classroom team in the implementation of pedagogical program activities (interventions, strategies, tools, learning, etc.), ensuring consistency and continuity for students;
• Coordinates the design of materials by the classroom team and communicates necessary preparations or adjustments;
• Coordinates team break times to ensure a safe ratio at all times in the classroom;
• Conducts performance evaluations of employees under their supervision at scheduled times;
• Fosters a positive and professional work environment by managing conflicts constructively and supportively, while promoting the daily development of team members;
• Any other tasks related to their duties;

Qualifications

• Hold a legal teaching qualification;
• Have at least one (1) year of experience in primary or secondary teaching;
• Possess experience working with autistic students;
• Master French both orally and in writing;
• Being bilingual (French and English) is an asset.

• Work Conditions:
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
• Job Type: Full-time – 35 hours per week – according to the school calendar
• Salary Scale: TEACHER – 0310 from the Treasury Board of Canada
