Industrial Partnerships Manager - Business Development Office, Research Services
Construction et génieDescription
McGill University Health Centre Research Institute
The McGill University Health Centre Research Institute (IR-CUSM) is a world-renowned research center in the fields of biomedical sciences and health care. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute serves as the research base for the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), a university-affiliated hospital center attached to the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University. The IR-CUSM is partially funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Reporting to the Business Development Office Manager and the Pre-Award Office, the Industrial Partnerships Manager acts as a leading growth driver and opportunity generator for the IMPACT Centre and the Business Development Office (BDO).
Based at the Business Development Office, the position holder proactively analyzes the Institute's research and innovation portfolio to identify opportunities for commercialization, partnership, and investment, and independently develops and maintains a portfolio of relationships with industrial partners, investors, and venture capital funds.
The position holder also develops innovation maturity within the Institute's research community and determines the most effective path forward for each opportunity, executing structured transfers to the Strategic Research Development and Global Partnerships Manager (Stage 2) for funding and external financing opportunities, and to the Commercialization and Academic Partnerships Manager (Stage 3) for pipeline advancement and validation — with a documented opportunity note and recommended approach.
Responsibilities
A. IDENTIFICATION OF OPPORTUNITIES AND PIPELINE MONITORING (30%) — Monitor and manage the IMPACT Centre and BDO intake channels as primary sources of commercial and partnership intelligence. Proactively analyze the Institute's research and innovation portfolio to identify projects ready or in the process of being ready for commercialization, validation, or industrial partnership. Assess the commercial and partnership potential of received and identified opportunities: innovation stage, PI status, market mapping, competitive positioning, and advancement obstacles. Produce structured opportunity evaluation notes for each qualified opportunity and deliver an innovation opportunity mapping report within 90 days of hire.
B. INDUSTRY AND INVESTOR ENGAGEMENT (30%) — Develop and maintain an active portfolio of relationships with relevant industrial partners, investors, venture capital funds, and accelerators for the Institute's research forces and clinical capabilities. Proactively mobilize external stakeholders to create partnership opportunities: present Institute capabilities, identify strategic alignment zones, and develop initial partnership concepts. Assess incoming industry and investor requests, identify commercialization paths beyond traditional PI licensing, and represent the IMPACT Centre and BDO at relevant industry events, investor forums, and innovation conferences.
C. INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCHER ADVANCEMENT (25%) — Map the Institute's research and clinical population based on innovation potential and design structured engagement programs addressing recurring commercialization obstacles: targeted workshops, journey clinics, investor pitch preparation sessions, and individual navigation support. Maintain the IMPACT Centre innovation community database and serve as the initial navigation point for researchers, clinicians, and trainees seeking advice on commercialization, IP, industrial partnerships, translational funding, or clinical implementation.
D. STRATEGIC PATHWAY NAVIGATION AND TRANSFERS (15%) — For each qualified opportunity, determine the primary advancement path: major grant application, industrial partnership, investor mobilization, validation program, commercialization structure, or philanthropic funding. Execute structured transfers to the Strategic Research Development and Global Partnerships Manager (Stage 2) for funding and external financing opportunities, and to the Commercialization and Academic Partnerships Manager (Stage 3) for pipeline advancement and validation — with a documented opportunity note and recommended approach.
