Commercialization and Academic Partnerships Manager - Business Development Office, S
Ressources humainesDescription
INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH OF THE CUSM
The Institute of Research of the McGill University Health Centre (IR-CUSM) is a world-renowned research center in the fields of biomedical sciences and healthcare. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute serves as the research base of the McGill University Health Centre (CUSM), a university-affiliated teaching hospital attached to the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University. The IR-CUSM is partially funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Reporting to the Business Development Office manager, the role of the Commercialization and Academic Partnerships Manager is the internal executive driver of the Business Development Office (BDA) and the IMPACT Centre.
Based within the Institute's Research Services, the incumbent is responsible for the BDA's project pipeline: ensuring the progression of the Institute's research teams from initial discovery to validation, commercialization preparation, and funding application, with measurable results at each stage.
The incumbent also maintains structured working relationships with McGill's innovation ecosystem (Dobson, Engine, I+P, TTO), the CLIP platform, and collaborates closely with the CUSM's Innovation, Performance, and Quality Management Department (DIPQ), under the governance of the Joint Innovation Council (CCI).
Responsibilities
A. INNOVATION PIPELINE MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH TEAM PROGRESSION (35%) — Own and maintain the IMPACT Centre / BDA's internal pipeline: document the development stage, PI status, funding needs, validation requirements, partner contacts, key steps, and obstacles for each file. Conduct structured pipeline reviews to assess project maturity, identify bottlenecks, and prioritize based on strategic potential. Establish and track step-to-step progression criteria: exploration, validation, commercialization preparation, and funding application. Produce dashboards, progress reports, and briefing notes for IMPACT Centre / BDA leadership. Identify and mitigate risks upstream: PI conflicts, regulatory gaps, validation bottlenecks, and team preparation gaps.
B. DIRECT SUPERVISION, VALIDATION PATHWAY NAVIGATION, AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT (30%) — Work directly and individually with the Institute's research teams to assess their innovation stage, clarify their pathway, and develop a structured progression plan. Provide concrete support for pitch competition preparation (local, national, international), philanthropic funding opportunities, proof-of-concept programs, and research project discussions. Serve as the primary liaison between the IMPACT Centre and the CLIP platform to connect biomedical engineering, digital health, and medical device teams with appropriate clinical and technical validation pathways. Actively collaborate with the CUSM's DIPQ to align the internal project pipeline with clinical transformation priorities, hospital innovation programs, and IMPACT Centre objectives, in accordance with the CCI's strategic guidelines. Design and facilitate capacity-building activities: innovation pathway workshops, pitch preparation sessions, and ecosystem navigation guides.
C. ECOSYSTEM INTEGRATION AND PARTNER COORDINATION (25%) — Maintain active and structured business relationships with McGill's Dobson Centre (startup pathways, pitch competition preparation), McGill Engine (translational and digital health acceleration), McGill Innovation + Partnerships (PI, licenses, technology transfer interface), the McGill Innovation Fund, and the IMPACT Centre's technology transfer managers. Facilitate program transfers to and from the ecosystem, with clear documentation and tracking. Coordinate validation and clinical implementation pathways with the CUSM's DIPQ.
D. INTER-BDA COORDINATION, TRANSFERS, AND PROJECT PIPELINE REPORTS (10%) — Receive projects from the facilitator (Stage 1), transfer ready-to-fund projects to the incumbent, develop strategic research and global partnerships (Stage 2) with complete documentation. Coordinate the strategic positioning of project pipeline projects and identify funding opportunities. Ensure all stage transfers are documented, structured, and communicated to avoid duplicates and gaps. Provide recommendations to IMPACT Centre / BDA leadership on project portfolio priorities and strategic opportunities.
